No, but if it's true, I need to know yesterday. Any source?

Ok, here it is: it's true! And guess who is in competition with Safilo?

    Sure. Overpriced, but quite decent.

What's funny is that we may see more of this "revolving brands".

Seriously, though: isn't there just one "Safilo" look and just one "Luxottica" look? It seems that they have the same ideas running through all their lines! With the brand names revolving around, who's going to know or care? Dior, Gucci, Prada, Versace, etc. etc. All become a mismash of sameness, in my poor head and probably the consumer's.

What I think happens is that a person picks a given frame first, and then if it's justified by a recognizable name, they feel they've made a trendy decision. I can't really see "Polo" loyalists or "Gucci" loyalists or "Donna Karan" loyalists. If they are, they would be confused, as Armani looks drastically different than it did five years ago.

This brand stuff is so much B.S.

Only thing that matters is not getting stuck with discontinued frames, IMO.

I know that we (charmant) have Hugo Boss until the end of next year and then it is going to Safilo. I don't know if that is any indication of weather or not it is coming or going but it would have the potential to "take over" the polo spot from a corporate standpoint.

P.S. If you have a trustworthy, responsable, ethical sales rep than you won't have anything to worry about in getting stuck with product. Usually it is a competing frame company that is trying to stir in panic over time left with a license. I still have accounts buying and selling Boss because it works for them and they know that when the time comes to sell down product, make a deal, or exchange product for our new collection that I will do whatever is good for our relationship and their business. Sorry for the mini-rant...

Also wanted to mention that Centennial will not have Lacoste as of May I think. Perfect will be the new distributors.

Safilo's current license expires at the end of 2006. There has been no renewal reported. Rumors in the financial community and from the Italian optical industry are that LUX and Safilo are in the running. LUX's stronger financial position and established distribution may well give them the advantage. With the lead times required a decision will have to be made (albeit not necessarily announced) fairly soon.

This annoys me. When this rumor first came out, I was told by my rep(who's now the Nine West rep)swore there was no way this was going to happen. She had just been at their sales meeting and were told that Safilo would spend what it needed to keep it. Liar Liar pants on fire:angry:

    Just wanted to vent.

Oddly enough, with the exception of an "insurance" program, I don't see a whjole lot of difference between the 2 companies. I don't buy much from either of them because I have no need for the huge companies.

In my mind, they both sell the products that are highly inflated in price, so that they can give the chains (or themeslves in Lux case) a better discount. If we didn't buy from them, do you think they'd have such a great discount for the chain stores ?

This latest flip-flop of labels will have no effect on the way I do business at all.
