    Redness under nose pads

If a patient feels no pain or discomfort. What actually causes the redness under the nose pads. (We are assuming that the adjustment is correct.) I was told two theories, and would like some additional information. #1. Mechanical compression would in long term cause inflamation and turn red. #2. Lack of air or oxygen to the area would cause redness. Any other thoughts or theories. This is my silly question of the day.

If the nose pads are too loose it will let the frame move, think of a shoe about a half size to big.

    nosepads

Sometimes, its nothing more then the patient having sinus problems, like a cold or allergys, The nose then is in a temporary edemic state, which in essence causes the pads to be tighter then normal.

Noses can be very sensitive. sometimes I have had to radically re-fit the pads to a completly different place (or use contacts for a week or so), to let the primary position of wear recover. and then re-fit properly. It does seem with some patients that if you dont do this, the nose never recovers, because the redness never seems to go away (because the pad continues to iritate it)

    physical presure

perspiratation under pad stagnating, and pores becomming blocked

    Allergic reaction to pad material

Allergic reaction to cleaning agent on pad's

    poorly fitting pad
