    Unhappy

Okay, now that we know what our musical tastes are, how about testing our melodious meddle? Here are some lines from top 40 songs. Can you match them with the song/group?

1.) "...you'd better take a fool's advice and take care of your own cause one day they're here, next day they're gone"
2.) "...seems I was busy doing something next to nothing"
3.) "...she blew my nose and then she blew my mind"
4.) "...so our graduations hang on the wall, but they never really helped us at all"
5.) "...malatov cocktail, local drink- mix 'em up right in the kitchen sink"
6.) "...then she lit up a candle, and she showed me the way"
7.) "...the love she'd waited for was someone else not me"
8.) "...I reach down between my legs and adjust the seat"
9.) "...he was too tired to make it, she was too tired to fight about it"
10.)"...she said 'tell me, are you a Christian child?' I said 'maam I am tonight'"
11.)"...cause the law don't change another's mind when all it sees at the hiring time is the light on a corner bar"
12.)"...the movie wasn't so hot, it didn't have much of a plot"
13.)"...and let me ne'er forget, that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet" (hey, one hymn, its my fav, okay?)
14.)"...you say 'go slow,' I fall behind"
15.)"...only boys who save their pennies make my rainy days"
16.)"I took you home and dressed you up in polyester" (I'd be pretty amazed if anyone gets this one).

as you can see, there are a small number of gaps in my musical knowledge, but I comfort myself by thinking that it's probably mostly American, and from the olden days. (yes, I am 22 and can't see to 40)

    Well Pete,

It looks like you've managed to out do youself on the "too much time on your hands" end of the volley. And we all thought you worked for a living ;-)

1)Theme song from Chico and The Man (?) :-)
    2)Zamfier and the Pan Flute-Mystic Message :-)
    3) The Rolling Stones (or Stoned ;-))-Honky Tonk women
    4)Billy Joel-Allen Town
    5)Don Henley-Smugglers Blues
    6)The Eagles-Hotel California
    7)Bread-The Diary
8)Van Halen (and it's "ease the seat back")-Panama
9)The Eagles-Life In The Fast Lane
    10)Mark Cohn-Walking In Memphis
11)Bruce Hornsby and The Range (?)
    12)The Mills Brothers (?)
13)Judus Priest-Pain Killer (My 6 year old daughters favorite song :-)
    14)Cindy Louper-Time After Time
15)I'll have to go with Judy on this one. Madonna (or Little Miss Easy)-Like a sturgeon...Virgin
16)The worst part about this one is that I know this line, but can't for the life of me remember the song. The group was one of those techno-groups from the 80's and I can see the black suits with white shirts and the short hair styles with the long bangs draped over one eye.

Well, well, well... I believe you have most of them figured out:

1.) "...you'd better take a fool's advice and take care of your own cause one day they're here, next day they're gone"
    2.) Prince- "Raspberry Beret" (Karen)
3.) Rolling Stones- "Honkey Tonk Woman" (Judy)
    4.) Billy Joel- "Allentown" (Darris)
5.) Don Henley- "All She Wants to Do is Dance" (Karen)
    6.) Eagles- "Hotel California" (Judy)
    7.) Bread- "Diary" (Darris)
    8.) Van Halen- "Panama" (Karen)
9.) Eagles- "Life in the Fast Lane" (Karen)
10.) Marc Cohn (among others) "Walking in Memphis" (Maria)
11.) Bruce Hornsby- "The Way It Is" (Darris)
12.) ???- "Wake Up, Little Suzie" (Judy)
13.)"...and let me ne'er forget, that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet" (I know someone can get this)
14.) Cyndi Lauper- "Time After Time" (Karen)
    15.) Madonna- "Material World" (Maria)
16.)"I took you home and dressed you up in polyester" (I'll probably have to give clues for this one).

I'm impressed! Just a hint, though- #1 was done by an artist already named in the list and #16 was done by the group that also did a James Bond theme song. The Hymn also contains the phrase "in the rustling grass, I hear Him pass- He speaks to me everywhere..."
