Unhappy help! got superglue on glasses.

hi i got superglue all over the lens of my glasses ive tried goo gone and it wont budge.*sigh* i can barely see out of them. plus i neded the glue to glue the lens back into the frame as it was falling out. i have very little money to pay the expensive prices for new ones. although i have applied for a low cost serivce but that will take a little time until then is there a way to get that nasty glue off the glasses???.:( :(

btw im new and my name is natti.:)

Never use glue of any kind on glasses. If the lenses are not polycarbonate (and if they came from lenscrafters they probably are) you can remove the glue with acetone. Don't smoke while useing, it blows up real good.

rubbing alcohol works better in this case as long as they are soaked.

Hello Tinksplaces.... we learn by our mistakes and there's always a bright side to every problem, far better you got this glue on the lens and not in your eye.

I've found with patients doing this (quite often BTW) if you get to the lens fast enough with alcohol it's possible to completely clean it up.

    Super Glue

Acetone usually works, or you can usually purchase super glue remover.

it still begs the question as why didn't you return to your Optician? They are trained to do repairs!

Most of us would gladly do such a repair free of charge.

I wouldn't even try if there was dried superglue on the frame.

Soaking them in heated neutraliser generally does the trick.

if they are polycarbonate - you are in for a lot of hard work with a soft cloth and some methelayted spirits and/or superglue remover. If they are not polycarbonate, then Acetone and a soft cloth is very effective. take the lenses out of the frame first, or you will cause yourself more problems

    Cheers, didn't know that.

These days it is company policy to replace rather than do various bodged repairs. Probably cheaper given the low cost of frames from China.

If you take them to an optician they will be able to tell you if they are poly or some other kind of plastic. They would also be able to tell you if they are glass.
