Good PAL Optician Chicago Area

Hi,

Great Board.

I can't believe how hard it is to find an optician that seems to be experienced in PALs. I have been randomly calling opticians and never seem to get someone that really understands all the PAL options out there.

My prescription is:

OD -8.50, +1.50 no astigmatism
OS -8.25, +1.50 no astigmatism

With my prescription I think at least a 1.67 index makes sense.

If anybody on the board is in the Chicago Metro area or knows of a good optician in the area, please let me know.

How about a sola V.I.P. they have a very thin lens option for your
Rx go to sola.com and get some info and walk into a optical well prepared
with exactly what you want.:)I believe they offer a transition lens

When I said options, I just meant knowing about the different brands that are out there. There are so many that I have read about on this board.

For instance, I found an optician that seemed to have a lot of knowledge and experience and suggested the Kodak Concise, High Index lens for me.

I have not read much on this board about the Kodak Concise so was surprised he suggested it. I asked him about the lens and he thought it was as good, or better, as some of the others that have been mentioned on this board.

I'll check out the Sola site.

I have no idea where you would go in Chicago Metro, but I have some recommendations.

DELUXE INDEX
1) SolaONE HD 1.67 19+ mm
2) HOYA Summit ECP/CD 1.70 14+ mm
3) Varilux Ellipse/Panamic/Comfort 1.67 14+ mm

SAVE FEW BUCKS
1) Essilor Freeform Definity 1.60 15+mm
2) Varilux Panamic/Comfort 19+mm
3) HOYA Summit ECP/CD 1.60 14+mm

With a add of 1.50, I am not sure how much lens design is going to make a difference. Find a frame that you like, look good in, and feel that you could wear for a few years. Make sure to get AR coating, a good warranty, and that you are comfortable at the place you are making the purchase.

If all these thing are present when you pay your bill, you will be happy. If you want to drive yourself crazy, keep reading about different lenses, keep calling different places, and keep second guessing everything that everyone tells you.
