    Insurance Companies

    I am really having a hard time understanding why most vision insurance companies do not allow Independent Opticians to become providers.

    Anyone have an explanation?

    Being Canadian eh I am a little ignorant to this. What is the process of applying to be a carrier for VSP and Davis?

    Simple: The insureance companies "Gig" is to convice the poor starving practioner that droves of new patients will flock to his door, get eye exams, treatment and buy glasses. Part of the barb from the gig would be missing if they couldn't claim that he would have a near monopoly on the glasses sales as well as the other gigs.
