Does it really matter? A drunk is a drunk. I would say that person needs to be dependable.

    here is one for you..

Can anyone observe their customers/patients mannerisms and are able to determine their sign without looking at the month they were born? Its very interesting to observe how each sign buys glasses.

    Example = Aquarian’s
Engineer type, likes to know the “mechanics” of the frame they are thinking about buying.

Please don’t call me crazy for being extremely observant for the last 20 years, lol
:D I've had tons of practice...

Yes I think this is quite true. You can actually read what sign a person has just by observing them!

I can tell you almost 95% of the time what your age is just by speaking with you. I guess it is called ESP!!!

There is NO WAY you can tell a person's astrological sign by watching them pick frames !!

I am actually wondering if women can make better opticians...........the way this thread is going it evolves more and more that this profession is based on astrology and other "hokus pocus".

Optics is not based on ESP...........it is a straight forward profession much more related to mechanics than the universe of weird feelings.

If one would apply some sales psychology and selling tactics...........but wow..........all the women here are selling only according astrological signs.

Soon you are going to ask the birthday of some popular lenses so that you can recommend them to right sign customer and prevent come backs or non adapts.

Like if you are a Leo you need Zeiss lens because you would not adapt to a Varilux from Essilor which is good for a sagitarius.

    Chris:

Perhaps the thread alleges that women make better opticians because thier reasoning has nothing to do with logic.

If we have evolved into a "fashion business" they actually may be better as fashion has nothing to do with logic either.

This is where I must beg to differ! No way can you tell this, short of looking at their drivers license whilst talking to them about lenses, frames, optics etc!! As a reply below yours notes, we are really getting into hocus pocus now! Yes certain signs do seem to have similar characteristics, e.g. bossy, laid back, organized, a dreamer, but even then there are the exceptions that stand way out, so lets get out of 1-800-witch and back to business!!!:) :)

What makes a good optician, male or female, knowledge, knowledge, personality, knowledge, a good eye for shapes and colours, knowledge, helpful attitude, knowledge, rapport with people, knowledge, etc etc:) I don't think that your chromosones make a difference, except that the male opticians I have come into personal contact with, seem to have an aversion to scut work, like dusting, cleaning frames, mirrors, or anything else that resembles "women's work"!;) Now lets here a rebuttal from all the males out there who do dust, clean, tidy up, organize frame boards, polish mirrors, clean out drawers and cupboards etc etc without being nagged to!!!!

I have always found that when working with females it is always helpful to point your finger at them and snap. I don't know why but it always seems to get their attention. It works with my wife also:D[/QUOTE]

Maybe you can do that in your shop and at home but I find if I tried that with my better half, there would only be half. I would have a frying pan across my dome! ;)

If women are better opticians, it is because:

    1) they look a lot better than men.

    2) they have good legs and cleavage.

    3) more experience at lying (this is essential to sales if the objective is sales alone.)

    4) they can be more empathetic, especially with children.

    5) most of them pay more attention to appearance than most men.

    6) they are more capable of developing and showing enthusiasm.

    7) they are less likely to hit on customers.

    8) they are more capable of diverting their thoughts when things are slow, they can always talk about food, restaurants, hair care, dress sales, their last date, showing pictures and tales of children and relatives, etc.

(Boy can't wait to see the feed back on this one)

I am sorry this thread has put you in a Snit. People should not be troubled if they don't have the same ability someone else has. I'm sure they have many unique abilities of their own. ;)

Chris: I am sure everything you said above is as true as some people believing in astrology! Some signs are people pleasers and they are good at what they do. Optics is knowledge you have acquired. It sure helps to know what you are talking about.

Harry, I would suggest you ask Jim Schaefer for the birthday date of transition lenses..................................

Then one of the fair ladies can make a horoscope and if favorable they might have the right customers who will love them if the sign are compatible.

    Test

    Scenario:

A man walks into an optical store and says "what's your cheapest frame?"

Q: What is the man's sign?

Lets see, who can we tick off with this one??;)

    A thistle - he's obviously a canny Scotsman
Choptsticks - he's obviously Pake (Hawaiian slang for Chinese)
    Moths - he's a miser
The sign of the three ghosts - he's a scrooge
Oh, a pupilometer - he's an optician from down the road checking out the comptetion....
