Wave How to rid old frames

Hello guys, I have a question. I have taken over a couple of stores and have one huge problem. The lasy buyer couldn't turn down a deal ever! SO now we have frames up to 10 years old that have never sold. How do I get rid of them in a good way. (i mean they haven't sold yet, they probalby aren't) any help who be appreciated.

Donate them to a local college and see if you can obtain a tax receipt of some sort.

Or Rotary! Failing that if you want to see some return, use them as give aways or BOGOFs. Or glaze them as Rx sunnies, FREE Prescription sunglasses with all purchases over $200.

Go on use your imagination, you know you want to!!

Depending on the "fashion" of the eyewear in question, and your market, you could post a sign that denotes your "timeless" "vintage" eyewear ... perhaps play up the exclusivity of the "collection". ;)

Depending on what you have, perhaps look into ebay as an outlet...

    Good luck !!!

And, Welcome to Optiboard !

Before I give them to the Lions club or other chrarity, I offer them at little or no cost (with lenses at regular fee) without guarantee as second pairs for painting the garage, working on the car, etc. Or occasionally a pair of fishing glasses.

Contact local theater groups or wardrobe directors to see if any of the models would interest them. Also take a selection into vintage store (maybe put sun lenses into them) a see if they are interested.

Put a few demo plano sun lenses in them (for demonstration purposes) and do a BOGO. Free SV suns with the purchase of a regular pair.

Or, take them apart. Have you priced nosepads, nosepad screws etc?

There has to be a little hope for some of those frames. I have a sale rack marked down to 1/2 price, I move a lot of them. No warranty, I tell them they are discontinued, or the manufactuer is out of business. Some people want a pair for the computer or the work shop, they don't care about the style. Sell them at a huge discount and get full price out of the lenses. You still make money, you get rid of the dogs and the customer gets a good deal!

Gift of Sight can always use them. As someone mentioned sell on Ebay (those people buy anything) or salvage for the parts

If you are looking to donate them and get a tax receipt, Eye Care For Kids Foundation seems like a good organization. Their website is www.eyecare4kids.org.

You might also put a message on the VOSH message board that they are available to donate. Their website is www.vosh.org

    old frames

    Several choices
Roane State Colege in TN has an Ophthalmic dispensing program When I was at an unnamed college in NY we sent them boxes of our surplus donations They needed the donations because they were always being short funded by the college

New Eyes for the Needy in Short Hills NJ might be a good place

Remote Area Medical will put them to good use as well

Cannibalize the parts such as temple pairs, screws, temple bar covers and nosepads.

The temples alone should bring at least $15/pair from someone looking for a quick bandaid solution to their broken eyewear while also providing them with brand new parts.

As an OD/business owner, I would recommend talking to some of your frame vendors to see what they'll do. We have had offers in the not to distant past from L'Amy, Charmont and Safilo to do some sort of exchange program so that they would take your old crappy stuff and replace it with new stuff that might have a chance of being sold. The L'Amy offer was about 3 months ago and the Charmont rep stopped in on Friday for the first time ever and made a similar offer. The Safilo offer was about 4 years ago.

I would certainly look into something like this before donating. If nothing else, they'll give you either a free frame for exchange or at least a discount to put their stuff in. It sounds like frame vendors do this stuff all the time.

Sounds like GM putting their cars on sale at employees discounts.............just to move some of their stuff. Sign of good times.

Edge SV plus power lenses in them and sell them as readers. We get lots of requests for bigger readers when the market seems to be overrun by the small ones. Grocery stores and such sell them for $14.99 and up and they would not be as good of quality as your frames. Just an idea. Its what I do.

    disposal of old frames

    Larger size readers
    Plano Sunglasses
    Half price second pairs
    In office charity work

All are great ways to dispose of older frames that are often discontinued. How many times a week do we get people in looking for "Old Man Metal Frames" or "Old Lady Plastic Frames". There is a market for everything sooner or later
