    Medicare audit

I don't mean to hog this forum however, yesterday Medicare audited our facility and apparently, along with a bunch of other stuff, a form must be given to each Medicare customer that states proper cleaning of spectacle and contact lenses "Documentation for written instruction/information on beneficiary use/maintenance of supply (per 42 CFR 424.57(c)16).

Anyone Know where an official lens clean instruction form may be attained?

I plan to make one up if I cannot find one. I will probably use something out of the contact lens solution box for contacts.

    Thanks again

    James

Jeeze, we always teach people care for thier first pair of glasses (not sure it's worth our trouble) and thier prosthetic eyes. But if they need written instructions, just think what the grocery stores go through with food stamp purchases. Can you immagine written instructions for toilet paper?

These people have nothing better to do but make more and more paper work. Tree Killers......

I had one that the patient acknowledged on his ABN the approximate cost they may owe (excuse me.....estimated cost) was $202. One of my staff failed to list each of the costs with the description (example: Polycarbonate $30; Deluxe frame overage: $172). The patient did not have to pay the remainder.

    medicare

Back in about 1990, when i had one of my three stores, i decided to give the medicare folks a break and accept for the glasses what medicare paid. Was not to long after that i recieved a visit from one of the friendly medicare inspectors who told me i had better charge them the 20% difference, or i would be guilty of some kind of unfair business practice as it related to medicare. Which just goes to prove sometimes you just can,t be nice
