I am looking for information on the history of glass lenses. Which city made a monooply on glass manufacturing?
what is lead glass, crown glass, flint glass? how are colored glasses made?
what are the two early types of optical glass?
what is striae?
how are bubbles and seeds created in the lenses?
what is the name of the process used to remove strain from glass?
what is the difference between heat treated and chem treated?

Trace though Optiboards archives, it has all been covered with a link that told you the history including Brazilian quartz lenses 'til we ran out of large chunks of Brazillian quartz, then glass became the material of choice.

Can any one help me? I don't know how to use the archive. So I can find out more about the history of glass.

I was unable to find a thread on OptiBoard mentioning Brazilian quartz- however, a quick search of the internet yielded this site that appears to have quite a bit on the overall history of glass- including its use in ophthalmic lenses...
