    Strange Complaint

It was one of those bad days! Very hot and sticky weather and this difficult Pt comes in.

"After I've been wearing these new glasses for about an hour, I start getting toothache. If I take the specs off, the pain goes away after a short time"

    The patient then went on.....

"I went to my dentist who couldn't find a tooth related problem, so can only assume that the glasses are at fault"

I looked at the perfect fitting behind the ears and released everything so the spec were loose and slipping and told the Pt to try this for a few days.

I think I might have heard every type of complaint now!

ive heard of earaches but theres some truth to it if the frame is too tight or small. Alot complain of blurry vision, this is the most common

I wonder if she might have a sinus problem.

The sinus cavity is not very far from the mouth, and the same nerves run from the gum through them. I know from personal experience that a sinus infection can cause tooth pain.

If the glasses are heavier than what she is used to, then the additional pressure could be enough to push any inflammation down to the teeth and gums where it would be much more noticeable, and irritating.

Just a theory based from personal experience :)

    I agree, Cassandra.
But, just in case that is not the reason, I would advise the patient to put her aluminum hat back on. This will block the alien toothache ray that might have been causing her pain. ;)

I once had a woman tell me she was "allergic" to polycarb. Plastic or glass was OK. Poly caused her eyes to water and sneezing.:hammer:

Spexvet you forgot that aluminum will be not enough protection.........she should use the lead hat.

I once had a patient (in Eugene, Oregon) come in and request that her silicone nosepads be replaced with something else. I asked her if she had an allergy to the silicone ... no allergy but she had just found out that silicone obstructs and interfers with the human aura:hammer:

You should have offered her crystal nosepads (they do exist) - for $20.00 each, of course.
