    Wave Retailers - How do you charge for . . . .

your drilled rimless jobs? We are a wholesaler who is evaluating its drilling charges.

Do you just "absorb" the labs charges for the "drilling services" (2 hole, 4 hole, etc) into your frame cost? Or, do you actually charge your patient for this service as an "add-on"?

And while we're on the subject . . . does your lab charge you for the hardware (bushings, etc.) needed to assemble the 3-piece mount if you do not provide them with it when you are supplying the frame?

We find ourselves typically having to obtain it on our own (even though we did not supply the frame) and this is proving to be surprising costly! :(

    Any/all comments appreciated. :)

    TIA

Every time you drill a hole you take the chance of messing up the lens........getting it back for re-do if the hole crazes, warranty and so forth.

The better you do the job the less of above things are going to happen.............but the technician who is doing it is superbly good..........therfore he is worth more money. No win situation.

It makes no difference to you as a wholesale lab if the retailer charges per half a hole or four holes, or buries the cost into the frame.

If your company is good at it and there are no problem jobs in general, you are doing a good job and are entitled to charge a bit more than your competitor who does have hole problems.

We bury it into the cost of the frame. Actually, we only use more expensive/high quality frames for rimless, and there is margin to absorb.

For lenses only, we just do not charge extra.

I wouldn't want to be doing rimless all day long, and I wonder how you wholesalers do not go crazy doing all this stuff!

I also bury drilling in the cost of my frame.

I also do $10 over normal mark-up for rimless frames to cover cost of grooving.

    Charge for drilling

Add a little extra to the cost of the frame for a complete pair purchase. Add $ 20-25 for using a POF drill mount. By adding on to do a drill mounted POF you cover the cost of replacing screws nyts bushings etc and covering yourself in the event of STUFF HAPPENS

Ditto everyone else. We had it to the cost of the frame.

I separate out the price of drilling. 2 times lab charge. I don't include it in the price of the frame because if someone buys a frame only, I don't feel right including the drilling charge. I also want the patient to know that if they choose a full frame, thier lenses will not be as expensive as they are when they are drilled.
    ...Just ask me...
