    Question Frame Trays

We are in the process of making our optical more organized.

It is a pediatric optical that is very small and so we are custom buildling some drawers inside a cabinet where we can store frames and pull out to display as needed. The thing is, I hate plastic frame trays. Does anyone know of any wood frame trays or do I have to have them custom built?

    Thanks!

    Sandy

If you can find an old optical lab with a thing for not throwing things away. They probably have a lot of them in the back junk rooom.

If you can find them, they will probably give them away as they don't stack and clean up as well as plastic. Eventually they either come un-glued or warp as well as stain with dyes etc.

I worked for the jewelry industry for 10 years. There is a supply company that makes a lot of items that translate well into the optical world.
Call them and ask for a catalog. They have awesome customer service.

I buy small presentation trays , item # 61-0082 in black.
We line it with a slight amount of padding & velvet to match the store's decor and place the glasses and designer case on it as we bring it to the customer to dispense. Having been in the fine jewelry business, I am a believer in romancing the product.
Our customers seem to be pleased with it and currently our customer satisfaction score is 97% excellent.
I am sure the presentation isn' the only reason for the score, but it all helps.

If you are having cabinets custom made anyway, why not just have them buid the drawers to match ? I wouldn't use plastic, we used wood with a cloth inlay that can be removed for cleaning. We mounted the drawers on 100 pound capacity drawer slides, in case a child (or adult) leans or hangs on them, they'll support some weight w/out breaking. We did the same thing in the lab and store all our stock lenses, as well as patient jobs, and stock contact lenses. It makes the lab look more like a library than a factory.

Lawrence Yu can help you from HK.

Some French frame importers buy wood displays and wood frame trays from HK. They will cost you around $50 USD each for a 30" x 20" wood tray with silk decro.

They look very high end and available in many colors.

WOW thanks for the great leads!
I'll definately follow up on them and see what I can find.

We did ask the person that was customizing our drawers to build them as well, but he seemed to be less interested in that, as it is quite time consuming and intricate. He advised us to see what we could find for inserts first.

    Thanks!

If you can go by a cabinet makers supply and get the proper metal "corners" they are so easy to make (if you have a table saw) you can probably make enough to supply your needs in a single day at cost of under $5.00 ea.

    Eyegirl,

I have an amish employee that builds all of our chairs, tables, displays, and cabinets for our offices. He'll custom make anything we need. He also does a lot of side jobs if you're interested. He'll be traveling to Vegas with me in Sept. for the West show if you'd like a quote on some work.
