It's basically the same as Optiboard. Is there a need for another forum the same as this one? It looks nice but I don't see a reason to have two the same. If you have a Coke, you don't need a Pepsi also. It's one or the other. I'll stick with Coke.
If there were different people and different views it would be great, but really it just spacing out the same people.
Don't worry there are about 5 optical forums I know. We are not alone in this world.Originally Posted by For-Life

Yeah I visit some of them but there is just NO competition for optiboard!
Harry you don't have to use the word "I think". we do lead the pack. Just spent all day to update my website rating of all the optical sites. The optiboard is way above the others I have listed.Originally Posted by hcjilson

Have a good game.........................
Why would someone do this? First poll is about the best opti website. Steve, you got enemies? Need me to sit on them?
They took a poll:Originally Posted by edKENdance

The administration "me" and mods have great respect for Steve and the members of optiboard. This place kicks butt. I think everyone there is a member here.
The idea of OptiForum came about by a small group of equipment technicians who wanted to offer tech support to its customers via bulletin board. Of coarse there would never be more than 100 or so members and would be pretty boring. We decided to open it to everyone. We do not expect to compete with optiboard and we definately do not want to be like optiboard. We wish to find our own identity. You will see that Optiforums layout changes everyday.
The person that posted that ridiculous poll is the same member here who started this thread and for some strange reason feels like we are some kind of threat. I invite you all to come over and vote for OptiBoard. It would be funny to see 1000 votes to 4.
We also decided not to advertize here even though Steve probably wouldnt mind, being the classy guy that he is. But since you guys brought it up here. We thank you. I wish OptiForum to become more of a publication rather than a message board. We wish to have news and classifieds and links to optical sites. I know a lot of people here have some amazing sites and businesses and you are all free to place them at OptiForum. You can also Freely send me advertisements and i will put them in the classified section on the main website.
Again, I cannot stress enough the respect I personally have for Steve and this place, I know i dont post often but I have lurked for years and i spent lots of time learning from the high quality members here. I am always amazed at the impressive knowledge possessed my several of your regulars here. This place refreshes my belief that Opticianary is an art.
Thank you all, and We would love to serve all of you any way we can.

That sounds pretty fair to me. The only propblem is that you can not split yourself into too many conversations all over the net. Some of the postings do take some time and thinking in order to get an idea across, u less it is just some stupid yack yack.........or do you prefer this lens or the other lens.Originally Posted by OpticLabRat

Very True Chris,
I am also a moderator at a couple Live music trading message boards and that is exactly the problem. Very weak content, Most peoples posts are no more that a sentence or two. This type of professional site is far different from that. Like i said before, I Have been a lurker for years. I rarely post messages but i think i have read them all. I especially love when people like you, and some other highly esteemed members here get into technical debates. There are some very well versed knowledgeable members here. Its almost mind boggleing. I have been in the business 19 years, I feel pretty confident in my abilitys. But some people here make me want to go back too school.
OpticLabRat,
My first instinct tells me that your website won't do very well because it is too much like OptiBoard. It looks the same. Even the name is virtually the same. Are you getting the numbers you anticipated? Is the site growing as quickly as it should? I hope I'm wrong, but as a marketing strategy, being the same doesn't work. Normally you want to differentiate yourself. What does OptiForum have that I can't get on OptiBoard? You might want to consider filling a different need or catering to a more specific customer. Lab techs only, for example. Just trying to help.

Of coarse it would be very slow so i decided to open it too everybody in the field. I am trying to make it look much different than this forum but i am limited in my software. Other than skin options, a message board is a message board. They all look the same. There is about 10 other optical related boards out there as well. Of coarse none of them compare too Optiboard.
I hope in the future that OptiForums main website will become something special. I want it too become more of an online publication. The messageboard should become secondary. There will be many changes coming and i hope soon noone could ever compare us too Optiboard. I do not want to be a hack!
I would say that as for now, the best feature of www.OptiForum.com is that there are some of the best equipment technicians on the planet over there. Between about 5 of us, We can provide technical service and support to any optical or ophthalmic equipment in the industry. I know that is a biased opinion but i know it too be a fact. If anyone needs support on anything. Feel free too stop by. You do not need to be a customer for free support. I wish too push the message board more in that direction.
Thank you all for your input.
Leo
I believe the proper phonetics for your comment is "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot ?"

My site is similar, but focuses on NJ opticians. NJ Opticians don't go by ANSI standards for most tolerances and the ABO/NCLE is not a recognized certification or licensing requirement. My site is relatively new. Really only started in late June. What happened was my teacher allowed for a project in a class, some programs that are optical in nature. My class was having a hard time with some of the dispensing formulas so I wrote something that they could check their work. I put up some links and started to think about a potential website. I realized that NJ is the last state to have their own exam and has unique licensing requirements. I feel that for NJ opticians and students my site will offer a lot ( legal help because we have really strange laws) Of course their is some overlap with Optiboard (which I think is a great site). I didn't know this site existed until I was done with mine. Augie, a member of this site, told me. Fortunately my site's focus is somewhat different. My site is more like a union without the union dues. My goal is to keep standards and salaries high in NJ with whatever influence the site will have. I would also help anyone in any way shape or form become a NJ licensed optician through information and optical help (I'm really good at optics). Our test is four parts ( a 4 hour exam, shop, neutralization, dispensing(you must properly adjust a pair of glasses as well as repair a pair of glasses and take measurements (you can only be off a mm))).
