Depends on how big the frame is and what Rx is. In low Rx's to medium Rx's there will be little differenence in thickness/wt. between, poly, medium index and 167. In strong Rx or large frame 167 may be of benefit.

Essilor has it in Ovation, Comfort, Ellipse, and Panamic. Zeiss has it in the Gradal top. I think it is available in the Sola One. Also, as previously mentioned, it is available from Seiko.

    All 1.67 transitions.

    Hello rsandr,

I never make recommendations because I am not an optician, but I have done a lot of web research to see what is available to me as an eye patient in the U.S.

Of course your availability in England may be different.

Transitions in the higher index lens materials (1.60, 1.67, polycarbonate and Trivex) did not get as dark as the Transitions Standard Index product. (Standard Index: 1.50; hard resin or CR-39). In order to improve the product, Transitions Optical recently introduced "Transitions V with ESP" for 1.60, 1.67, polycarbonate and Trivex lens applications. According to Transitions Optical, Transitions V lenses reduce the VLT (Visible Light Transmission) in bright sunlight by an additional 6% (using Gray) to 9% (using Brown) over Transitions 1.60, 1.67, poly or Trivex lenses. Transitions V lenses get almost as dark in bright sunlight as Transitions Standard Index lenses. And Transitions V lenses darken and fade noticeably faster than Transitions 1.60, 1.67, poly, and Trivex lenses AND faster than Transitions Standard Index lenses. So when you consider any Transitions 1.60, 1.67, poly or Trivex lens selections for your client, you should determine whether they have made the upgrade to Transitions V.

"Transitions V with ESP", fact sheet, Transitions Optical
    http://www.transitions.com/transitio...dex.asp?id=326

You may be restricted to Transitions (V) Gray, or you may be able to select from Transitions Gray or Brown, depending on what lens and index combination you are considering. Gray is more available than Brown.

In the U.S., Transitions V lenses in 1.67 index are available in Varilux Comfort, Varilux Panamic, Varilux Ellipse and Essilor Ovation with Crizal Alize AR; and Seiko Proceed and Proceed II Short, and Shamir Genesis and Zeiss Gradal Top, all with (Zeiss) Carat Advantage AR.

AO Easy and SOLAOne are also available in 1.67 Transitions with Teflon AR, but I have not seen it specified whether or not they have upgraded to Transitions V.

    PS.

    Rsandr,

In the U.S., SignetArmorlite Kodak Precise and Concise (short) PALs are available with the Kodak "InstaShades" photochromic, which (from what I have read) is comparable with the new Transitions V product. The website says that they are available in 1.56 InstaShades Gray and Brown. You could also inquire about 1.60 InstaShades and poly InstaShades, as I read that they were planning to have that also.

Thanks everybody. Doesnt seem so long ago I drew a blank trying to find this product, either things have changed or we are well behind the States (as usual).
Ill give my Shamir supplier a bell tomorrow.

BTW the Rx is approx -7.00 and the customer has a history of being hard work.

if you go to transitions . com, they will tell you that there are all different types of index's including the one you are looking for. I wear progressive lenses, my index isn't that high, but i do know about it!

Also, Jedi, don't you find it funny that Shoppers carries what Sheedy stated as the best progressive lens overall, and then they ruin it with that AR junk they put on it. I mean the best PAL in the world sucks if you have to look through a broken up coating.

Which coating is that? (perhaps the same as the blotchy peeling junk that was on my old computer monitor, lol)

If shoppers has shamir genesis, then there must be some labs that have them and therefore some independent ECP' that offer genesis in canada? (i'll ask mine next time)

Shoppers does their own surfacing, AR and edging. They buy them from the American Shamir office.

I do not know what their AR is, but I will tell you this, if you really press your thumb and fore-finger against it you can actually pull it off.

I think Shopper's does their own AR coating now. From what I recall they purchased 3 coating machines a couple of years ago. Many of my friends were p*ssed because no one got raises that year, so had been due for sometime as well. Previous to that, much of the AR was UTMC. I remember going through huge issues with crazing of lenses, most of it poly. That is the main reason I tend not to dispense polycarb, bad memories.

Skibunny, AFAIK Shamir is not available through any independent labs in Canada.

Thanks for letting me know that guys. Glad to not have possiblility of buyer's remorse, lol. Shoppers using that cheap AR (and freezing their people's salaries) is obviously them squeezing as much profit as possible in the short term, probably at the expense of the long term... but what does top mgmt care so long as THEY get THEIR bonus now. Just my guess.

BTW is shamir an american company? Their web site is unclear and rather poor.

Yes my ECP told me they're israeili and they're reasonable in cost.

And Jedi apparently shamir is available in some private labs here in ontario (eg., hamilton lens lab supply), though my ECP isn't fond of shamir (or nikon) PALs and dislikes shamir lenses for my specific needs. Instead recommends rodenstock life 2 first or zeiss gradal top (if transitions) for my particular situation. Every individual is different though.

I just dispensed a pair of Seiko Proceed 2 Transisition lenses in 1.67. Her old glasses I think are a mid index transisiton. Even though the rx is about a diopter stronger the lenses are half as thick as her old ones. Her rx is about a -10.00 and to be fair the new frame is a 50 eye(as small as she would go) and the old frame is a size 52 or 53. I am sure the smaller size is helping, too.

She is complaining of a yellow color distortion alone the edges of letters when she looks through the bottom of her lenses. She noticed this in her mid index, but not nearly as bad.

I am surprised that the cromatic abberation is so much worse in the 1.67. Could it also be due to the stronger prescription to some extent? I pretty much told her the only way to get rid of it was to go to a lower index lens. They do have a AR coat.

In Thailand the Ipseo Stylis may be $3000 US, but it is not as expensive here.
