Redhot Jumper Good times are coming back.......................

My wife made me watch the OPRAH Fall fashion show for a little while. Each model wore large sunglasses.

If that is the new trend, the RX frames are not far behind. Large frame will be in again. You can put the little ones back into the safe and wait 25-30 years and then sell them at manyfold the price you paid.

Also finally you will be able to sell prgressives that actually work and people can read with.

    Good time coming back.

Chris, I do not have good memories of trying to put a pair of +4.00s in a 56-20 frame with a 62 ED for a patient with a 56 PD :( Maybe today's edgers and surfacing equipment will do a better job than I was able to do 30 years ago :D

Big sunglasses have been popular for the last couple of years. Even aviator.

I was around when styles went from an average of 52 to 56-60, seemingly over night. Every patient who picked up their new glasses whined:

    They're so heavy!:(
    They're so thick!
Everything is blurry around the edges!

Chris, those were NOT good times for me.

I know I was part of it. I used to have a surfacing lab at the time and remember charging for oversize lenses when they were between 71 and 75 mm.

Specially photograys became heavy lenses. Anyhow the new plastic lenses which did not exist then should make life easier.

This is exactly why I am not looking forward to "huge" glasses ...

I really think the new technology in lenses and edgers will offset the problems we had back then...

Except that the "side by side" comparison is not to the glass or cr-39 lenses in a 52 eye from back then, the patient will be comparing the new glasses to the poly in the 48 eye that they were just wearing.

When small frames came in and while they are still in nobody gives a hoot how small the reading segment is.

On the other hand when they want the large frames again they wont give a hoot about any weight issue exactly like they did the last time. At least they will be able to read properly.

I believe you are right about that, however it will also help us promote premium products to reduce thickness...
