Star Trek-TNG was one of my favorite shows, Star Trek is just a classic, the other shows I never got into. Half the movies are good Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, and Search for Spock are fantastic. The Voyage Home has to be one of my least favorite movies, on par with Superman Quest for peace. Star Trek Generations was probably the best of the new, all the other ones were like long episodes, which is good but not good enough for a movies.
But, Ultimately Star Wars is the superior franchise, even with the Phantom Menace.

For sure Star Wars for me....Although, I'll watch Star Trek if Jean Luke Pecard is in it...

You know I could never get into the old ones that much. The new shows were much better in my opinion (I know most will disagree). I just felt the Star Wars were lacking some how. You know Jedi deep down inside your home is on the Enterprise not Endor you silly wooky! :p

IMHO, the first Star Wars (Episode 4) was better than any other Star Wars movie, Star Trek movie or Star Trek show. After that, I like Star Trek - TNG and the Star Trek movie where they go back to earth to get the whale.

I like Dr. Who, Hitch Hikers Guide (The series) and Red Dwarf, all from over there. PBS has done a great job of brining these and others to the US
Chewbacca would break Jean-Luc Picard like a wedding vow on the Jerry Springer Show. What is it with women and this guy anyway? Is he somehow the fulfillment of the fantasy that one day Frenchmen won't be so... French?
Star Trek TNG always seemed a little too preachy to me. But I loved Star Trek Voyager for all the wrong reasons (Jeri Ryan + tight outfit = :) ).
Farscape was the best thing to come out of Australia since Olivia Newton John. It was on back when the Sci-Fi Channel still showed science fiction.
The first couple of seasons of Red Dwarf are some of the best TV ever. I also still enjoy the old BBC Hitchhiker's Guide series, possibly more than the recent movie (thought the chap who played Arthur in the movie was tops).

I really like both star wars and star trek... I was truly sad when they canceled enterprise... is this the end of star trek? my vote was for star trek btw

Star Trek. My high school class mate, Dave McDonnell is the managing editor of Star Log Magazine. We were editorial staff on our high school yearbook and newspaper staff. My husband and I have attended a few Trekkie conventions.
I prefer StarGazer (you know the planetary guy who always tells you to "Keep looking up") to either of them.
Seriously though (although how serious can one be discussing Star Trek v. Star Wars), whatever merit there may have been to the original Star Trek was lost on me due to the horrendous acting (or lack thereof) of William Shatner. God.. I think...(pause) I'm going...(pause) to puke!
Honestly, the plots for the original Star Trek were fairly well thought out (I never watched much, but it seemed so from the episodes I have seen). Star Wars, however, fundamentally redefined the action film for all time- so the nod would have to go there in my opinion.
There was a 5 minute clip on the internet featuring a sock puppet that looked like a dog at the opening night of Star Wars III (called "Return of the Nerds, or something like that) doing interviews. If you get a chance to see it, it is one of the funniest clips I've ever seen!

I use to like watching Jack Horkheimer (Executive Director of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium) on PBS. I though it was a cool show. However, a buddy of mine, Richard Keating, who worked for the Naval Observatory, thought that Horkheimer was the biggest hack in the field....but then, Richard didn't have his own show did he?
You really can't compare Star Trek to Star Wars. Both well done, both totally different. If you want to see something fully, watch the opening of the AFI for George Lucas. Shatner come on thinking he's a speaker at a Star Trek Convention.

If I had to choose, I'd pick Star Wars, based solely on the original trilogy (the new trilogy is a complete abomination). But I'm not a huge fan of either.
My favorite scifi show was definitely Babylon 5, but the new Battlestar Galactica is fast becoming my number one. If you haven't seen it, start watching! It's amazing.

Star Trek vs Star Wars? Has to be Star Wars. I like 'em both, but how can every other alien world in the universe be possessed of such perfection in society? Why does every other alien have some sort of special ability? "I can talk with my mind". "oh yeah! well I can write my name in the snow!! Ha!! beat that one"
And more importantly how can they all have a cape or pointy shoulderpads as standard issue alien wear??
Now star wars, now that was genius...there were no terms like space credits and all the cool things on the movies were just regular everyday pieces of junk-It wasn't so sterile.
:) BABYLON 5 was by far the best, but after that then Star Trek TNG and Voyager, and Stargate is up there too - altho I haven't really cottened onto Stargate Atlantis that much!
How many have been to the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton in Vegas? I loved that, all 5 times. What can I say, little pants fit little behinds, little things please little minds, or something like that....
