I recently have been using stock uncut lenses coated with AR for my private jobs. I buy them from a very inexpensive stock uncut lens house which carries CR39, poly, 1.6, 1.67, sunsensors, polarized lenses and a budget progressive. For a few bucks more these lenses come with AR coating (which would cost me 10 times as much from a standard lab). I can have an outside lab edge my jobs for about $5-6 and voila I have a very inexpensive job. I also buy uncut progressives from Essilor, Shamir and have them edged in a similar manner. Doing things this way has produced considerable savings from the mainstream big VSP type labs. Does anyone see any problems with these types of lenses (ie: Nassau, KMars, LBI)? I have compared the jobs with those from the mainstream labs and do not see a difference. I think that one of the huge advantages is that these lenses come with the AR coating for practically free. However, if these coating start to craze or delaminate it would eliminate any advantage.
