    Wink Rent for OMD

I want to rent my Doctors office to the general Ophthalologist.
I am thinking of charging him/her rent. (because I think its the only legal way for an optician to make money).
    Now ! How much?
My overhead is abut $450 a day.
I would like to have OMD for 4 hours 1 day a week. I can easy reffer between 6-10 patients with either pathologies or just DFE ( those are the patients that my Optometrist can not see for a full eye exam because we either dont have a provider for this plan or the plan does not recognised and does not pay ODs for DFE(medical dilated fundus exam)
    So how much?
I will perform scheduling, recals, insurance eligibility verification, history and Autorefraction.
Md will perform exam, bill for it and may have some surgeries from it.
I also might benefit from this because MD will be on the panels that I am not and I might get more retail customers from that (providing MD can refract)....

    Lenny,

Out of curiosity, you stated that you had an OD. What is your agreement with him/her?

YOU CAN HIRE AN OD? Holy cow!! Unless you're an MD or an OD, you may not LEGALLY hire an OD in CT. Non-doctor owners (even Licensed Opticians) may not Hire an Optometrist here, You may only lease space to them. Something about interfering with patient care (ie forcing them to 'prescribe' unnecessary products...as if they don't do that working for another OD!).

Have you ever thought what you get when hiring a professional .....................?????

You will get the ones who are lazy to start on their own...........the ones that did not succeed in life..................or the young kids just out of school...........and that goes for optometrists.

A MD Opthalmologist you can clear hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, and is for sure is not letting himself being hired by an optician, (if it is permitted)...........he would probably end up owning you and your business in a 2 years time span.

It's unclear what you are providing to the M.D. You may bill for the space and the services NOT for the referrals. Therefore, it's irrelevant whether you're referring him 3,6 or 10 patients. You can increase your rent if you have more than one fully equipped lane, computer and administrative services, marketing etc. It's important for regulatory and legal reasons that you structure your rent around these things and not mention anything about referrals (this is widely considered a "kick-back" otherwise. However, if you have one fully equipped lane, computer support, a receptionist to take phone calls and a work-up tech I think you could charge about $200 for a half day.
