    My favorite seg

What is your favorite "non PAL" bifocal or trifocal (i.e. round seg, ribbon seg, quadrafocal, FT's) and why? What creative uses for the seg have you come up with? For example, we loved fitting golfers in decentered round segs so that they could view downward to hit the ball, yet still check scores and read the clubhouse menu.

I still use round segs for plus lenses if they complain of the image jump or don't want to convert to a progressive or blended seg. We still fit 49% of our presbyopes in bifocals or tri due to the type of practice we are in. Average age 70. Due to being in an ophthalmological primary practice we see lots of macular degeneration patients whom need the magnification effect & wider reading area.

    Bye the way--happy anniversary!

    Far and away....

Far and away my favorite was the Smart Seg by Sola. A progressive segment, fit high (just below pupil height) gave me all I could ask for in a lens that provided focus at all lengths and allowed an undistorted perifery. Varilux comfort and the Definity have solved that problem for me but they weren't around at the time. I also loved the round seg fit low for golf.

    St35.............................

Doing many hours of desk work per day, mostly computer I am still an advocate of my preferred ST35's which give me a clear and wide reading area. Want to see clearly without having to turn my head all the time which is required with my progressives.

I have both.........of course in several variations........dont take away my ST35's

Chris, Smart Segs are 35 flat top and will give excellent wide intermediate and near vision, requiring no head movement to use.

    Drk,

I forgot to add that I was one of the 11 people who wore this lens.........
I hadn't heard it was discontinued. Too bad!

No, the Smart Seg is dead, not me...click the link for "the master". I'm sure there's inventory out there...buy it up, quickly.

I'm going with the Panoptic. When it became evident that the lens was going to be difficult to obtain I set aside a couple of pairs of semi finished with 2.00 and 2.50 add's. I just never thought that I would live long enough to need 3.00's. Best pair of glasses I ever had were Panoptics in an AO Airflight.

I now wear a FT 7X28 and it works just fine.

Someone could make a lot of money......

by manufacturing the Airflight in Amber, Blond, Black, Grey and Brown. If I had a nickel for everyone I sold, I'd be retired just like you!

    Harry,

The main advantage with the Airflight was a 14 keyhole bridge. The Micmac gene runs strong in my family. I would give anything for a 14 heyhole in any zyle frame today. I don't even care what color it is. Would take it in flesh.

I also had a Safilo Goldman that was given to me by Mr. Berger in 1968. I fabricated a silicone bridge from a nasal casting. I wore that puppy till 1996 when the eyewire actually wore through.

FT28's are my go-to when all else fails. I've even placed them upside down for one of my favorite golfers so all he had to do was pull them down a bit to see the scorecard.

    Judy,
A 22mm round seg, rotated to the temporal edge, one lens only (same side as the hand they golf) works great for filling out scorecards.

I know that, but this is what the patient wanted and it worked.
