    Memorial Day

    Hi All:

The last time I was shot down in Viet Nam my best friend was killed and today, on Memorial Day, his closest childhood friend stopped by to see me. It turns out he has been trying to contact me for several years and finally discovered my phone number. After all these years he still has copies of letters I had written explaining the events of that day. He just wanted to hear first hand what happened. When combat is reduced to history books we sometimes forget how personal it really is.

I know how you feel Roy, I lost 14 in my command over there. Today and Veterans Day are really hard at times. Fortunately I stay in contact with thier families and that helps, a lot.

    Say Thanks!

Please say thanks to a veteran today. They are what keep us free from oppression and able to do the things we cherish in this great country. I am proud of all of those who serve and hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day.

Never forget: Memorial day was started in Columbus, Mississippi by the Daughters of the Confederacy to honor and remember the dead of both sides.

Also my father was on the Enterprise 1942-1945, I never reguarded him as a hero until after his death and I happened to see the Discovery Channel history of the Enterprise.

Life must have been terribly dull after three years of that.
