The term safety glasses generally refers to a class of protective eyewear that satisfies the requirements of ANSI Z87.1 (on occupational eye and face protection). Depending upon the specific type of eyewear, they may or may not be made to an individual's prescription (that is, they may or may not be prescription eyewear). Prescription eyewear that do not comply with the Z87.1 standard are sometimes referred to as dress eyewear.
