I know you wanted optical sites. But, being retired I thought I would post my personal web site just to let you all know that there is a life after laboring in the eye care vineyard all these years. I converted the site from my business use to personal use three years ago when I sold my business. Today, it is a great way to keep in touch with the young-uns, kin folk and friends
How sweet it is !

Not mine but a great one.
Okay, other than the obvious Keith Benjamin's Laramy-K is hands down the best optical web page I've navigated.
Mabe not the best, but at least the highest traffic rating of any commercial optical website and I am proud to have it brought to that stage. My hobby and my own input. Contains over 300 pages
Statistic for the Optochemicals site for March 2005 (today 21
Visitors 9,932 -/- Page Views 20,102 -/.- Hits 85,352 -/-
Google 4/10 -/- Alexa rating 92,455 -/- Reciprocal link exchanges 2,543 -/- Avg. length of visit (H.M.S) 03:47

One of the best ones of course has to be Optiboard .com
Actually Optiboard has the highest traffic rating of any optics related websites with an Alexa rating of 71,927 as of today. Yahoo has a rating of 1 (the highest) In the optical:Originally Posted by DPalmer

Why do you think your site has been so successful? (I assume an acceptable % of traffic is being converted to transactions.)Originally Posted by Chris Ryser
It seems very comprehensive and easy to navigate. Do you offer incentives to utilize the site versus other means of communication/commerce? Thanks for any tips, a client (in another medical products biz) is looking at their internet strategy.
There are no transactions done on the website. It is purely informative. Commercial contacts are all made by interested parties to us, either by e-mail or by telephone. We do not send out mass e-mails and advertising but concentrate on search engine recognition and listings, without having to pay for it.Originally Posted by chm2023
I had years when I paid a small fortune to many optical magazines for very little response. Today I have better ratings than they have on their web formats. Visionmonday has an Alexa rating today of 722,567, which means there are just about 10x more people going on the Optiboard than on their news site.
My website was stagnant for a few years because paid webmaster's are either lazy or not paid anough. My site was not updated freequently enough and if that is not done the web crawlers make you loose your listings on the search engines and poeple dont find you and you loose your traffic or don't get any. All the websites with an Alexa rating over 1,000,000 get very poor traffic and spend their money for nothing and say that the internet does not work.
I am subscribing to many of those free newsletter sent out weekly by all the search engine companies and they all contain very good articles how to make a website successfull and give all the technical advice.
It all boils down to either buy their services or invest your own time but by applying their ideas you can actually do it on your own. I am doing it and it takes time, I just work 3 to 4 hours daily on my site and it has started to pay off as I am getting some good traffic.

It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

We made Top 5 Lab site this year from LabTalk at the OLA (up from 9 last year). :bbg: I haven't been able to put much time into it lately adding the content I would like to add, but let me know, if there's anything you'd like to see in terms of product or educational information.
Thanks,

Congratulatons Keith. Your site is good.
Page ranking:
Google 3/10
Alexa traffuc rating: 2,146,888
Thanks Chris. On the flip side our Google rating has dropped from 4 to 3, mostly because I haven't been constantly adding content, but our visits have gone up about 25%... go figure.

Keith, Google dropped me from 5 to 4 but then I found out they did that just about to everybody including the Optiboard.Originally Posted by keithbenjamin

I think that www.visionoptical.ca is the ideal frame supplier web page. It tells you the sizes, colours, shows you pictures and allows you to order online.

Pros and cons of web sites?
Traffic is good but is it usefull traffic?
I personally like simple to the point sites with a good menu. Visual coolness is always a plus. High quality pics and graphics as well.
- Easily to navigateOriginally Posted by Mikef
- Information is clear
- Appealing as far as looks go
- Updated frequently
- Can be navigated by anyone (too many sites are too update and have too many graphics that it is either too slow or too hard for many to use it).
