Well I've finally got the full commercial version of this software up and running. Unfortunately it took me a lot longer than I thought it would, and in the process I lost all the previous messages posted here. Nonetheless, have a look around and let me know what you think.

This is really clever Steve. Should be a an even better place to visit - although the original was tops in my book. I also like the idea of a log-on, provided the e-mail addresses are validated. The ability to 'edit' your own posts is good.
Can't wait to see it full of new postings.
WOW!!! I just discovered I'm a "junior member"... do I get a decoder ring too?
I also clicked on your posting - the edit icon and it looked like it was going to let me edit your text. Want to check on that? I didn't type anything just clicked the icon like I did on this to add this line.

Excellent choice, Steve. The VCA uses this engine for its BBS. Registration is a plus.

Hi, J.R.! I like the "Junior Member" status as well. It's sorta like getting carded.

Is there a "reply without quote" feature available? The quoted text is obviously superfluous.

It appears that the list of replies is "flat" - that is, I can't tell that one of my replies is to your post (Steve) and the other to JR's. Or is there a view option I'm missing?

    JR,

Since you need to know the password used by the person who left the message, you should only be able to edit your own messages - not someone else's.

To reply without quotes, you choose the "Post Reply" link at the top of the page. When you want to make it known that you are replying to a specific message, you choose the "reply with quotes" option. While this appears to be a little funky at first, it actually makes sense. When you "post a reply' you are replying to the whole thread, whereas the quoting feature allows you to single out a specific message.

By the way, if someone can come up with better terms than "Junior Member" and "Member", let me know and I'll change it. It'd be interesting to see if anyone has something better in mind.

Steve, perhaps Associate member for 'junior' and Fellow for 'member'. Although I have not seen anyone listed as "Member" w/o the junior.

Not a bad idea. By the way, the difference between "Junior Member" and "Member" is the number of posts someone makes to the Board. And since this is a new Board, no one has the requisite number of posts required to be a full Member yet.

Actually I wanted to ask when you plan on using this as the primary posting board?

    Unhappy

Hi Steve, again I have to say I like the clean look of this new board. I don't think
I'll have any complaints about this new board, except..."Darris' Corner."

Such a shame. But, he'll make member status in no time.

What about Lab Tech and Optician? I'll let you decide which is the Jr.

Thanks again Steve for your effort on behalf of all Opticians. Your site gives us fellows in the remote communities a sense of fellowship with Opticians from around the world. I truly like the new format!!

Well I'm still testing out the new software, but so far everything looks real good. Barring any unforeseen circomstances, I'll be making the switch in the next 2-3 weeks. I've got a LOT of work to do first though.

What's your impression of the new system?

I like the new format, but I'm still unclear on whether its' best to reply w/ quotes or w/o. The redundant copying seems too much. Noticed I'm not junior, just mortal. Unfortunately, at my age... I'm already aware of that!!! Adding the icons is a scream

Think its better without the quotes, makes it a bit easier to read, unless its a reply to a post thats got a lot of replys and has gone a bit off the thread
