    What should be done?

Unfortunately, mass atrocities such as the Holocaust did not end with Hitler’s death in 1945. As jediron1 alluded to in a thread at the beginning of the year, there remains in this world an enormous amount politicide and genocide to which most of us are generally ignorant or simply don’t care because it doesn’t directly affect us. When we are made aware of such atrocities, what (if anything) should be done?

I guess the question was presented too abstractly to elicit any sort of response. It’s August 2001 and you are aware that, similar to the atrocities going on in other parts of the globe, thousands upon thousands of people are being murdered under a brutal regime in Iraq led by Saddam Hussein. What (if anything) should be done?

(No, I'm not so delusional to think that Bush wanted to stop the slaughter of innocent Iraqis.)

    For the average person?

    1) Don't change the channel!
    2) Weep!

Can't something be done to prevent them in the first place??

(I highly recommend reading "Shake Hands With the Devil-the Failure of Humanity in Rwanda" for a first hand look at how indifference and inaction caused, and will continue to cause, so much suffering).
Chimperial Optical-what a great place to work!
