...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST THIS EVENING...

FINAL STORM TOTALS FOR MOST OF EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS WILL RANGE
BETWEEN 28 AND 38 INCHES SETTING A NEW SINGLE STORM RECORD FOR
BOSTON...SURPASSING THE AMOUNT FROM THE GREAT BLIZZARD OF 78 AND THE
    PRESIDENTS DAY STORM OF 2003.

EVEN IF THIS STORM COMES UP SLIGHTLY SHORT OF RECORD...IT IS A
DANGEROUS STORM WITH THE WORST EXPECTED TO OCCUR DURING THE DAYLIGHT
HOURS THIS MORNING AND EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AS WINDS STRENGTHEN AND
TEMPERATURES FALL TO NEAR 10 ABOVE WITH SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 OR 3
    INCHES PER HOUR.

NANTUCKET MAY END UP WITH ONLY 12 TO 22 INCHES...BUT NORTHERLY WINDS
GUSTS OF AROUND 75 MPH ON BARNSTABLE AND NANTUCKET COUNTIES WILL ADD
A SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING ASPECT TO FALLING AND SEVERE BLOWING AND
DRIFTING OF THE NEWLY FALLEN SNOW.

SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES ARE EXPECTED THIS MORNING AS WINDS ALL ALONG
THE COAST GUST BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH ON BOSTONS NORTH AND SOUTH
    SHORES.

POWER OUTAGES MAY BECOME WIDESPREAD THIS AFTERNOON ON THE CAPE AND
NANTUCKET WHEN THE BRUNT OF WIND HITS THERE...BETWEEN 75 AND 80 MPH.

DRIFTS OF AT LEAST 6 FEET ARE EXPECTED IN PARTS OF COASTAL EASTERN
    MASSACHUSETTS.

OVER CAPE COD...NANTUCKET AND MARTHAS VINEYARD...THE SNOW HAS BEEN
OF A WETTER CONSISTENCY EARLY TODAY AND THERE HAS BEEN SOME RAIN ON
NANTUCKET. THIS RAISES THE ANTE FOR POWER OUTAGES IN EXTREME
SOUTHEAST NEW ENGLAND WITH THE SNOW CLINGING TO WIRES AND BRANCHES.

ALL THE HEAVY SNOW WILL TAPER TO SNOW SHOWERS LATER THIS AFTERNOON OR
EVENING...BUT CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING WILL PERSIST INTO
LATE THIS EVENING ACROSS EXPOSED AREAS.

THERE IS A CHANCE OF BLIZZARD CONDITIONS CONTINUING ON PARTS OF CAPE
COD INTO EARLY TONIGHT AS HEAVY SNOW SQUALLS POUND PARTS OF THE CAPE.

VULNERABLE LOCATIONS FOR NEARLY 40 INCH STORM TOTALS ARE
    ESSEX...MIDDLESEX...PLYMOUTH...NORFOLK AND BARNSTABLE COUNTIES IN
    MASSACHUSETTS.

A BLIZZARD WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OR FREQUENT
GUSTS OF OVER 35 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH CONSIDERABLE FALLING AND/OR
BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. VISIBILITIES WILL BECOME POOR, WITH
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES. THOSE VENTURING OUTDOORS MAY BECOME
LOST OR DISORIENTED...SO PERSONS IN THE WARNING AREA ARE ADVISED TO
    STAY INDOORS.

The wind helped us shovel. They just started to howl about half an hour ago and did us the favor of blowing almost all the snow off the walk. Of course the drifts are now covering our hedges and stone wall. I have to figure the drifts are between 3-4 feet. I'm almost afraid to look at the side of my car not facing the house. I have a feeling I'll be digging that out later on today. The snow's not expected to stop until sometime this afternoon.

The temps are also a killer. We were 5 degrees yesterday, not including the wind chill. Today we are expected to get into the low 20's. Yeah! A heat wave!

    Live pics......

There is now talk of this being the biggest storm in recorded history, eclipsing the blizzard of 88.
This website will get you live pictures.

First picture is looking out the back deck. You can see about 2 ft backed up to the door. about 2 ft further back, the snow is about waist high. If you look carefully you can see it outlined against the far deck railing.

Second pic shows 2 lawn chairs out in the front yard.Heavy snow band just hit with winds 75-80-not sure how long power will last.

Looking at the doppler radar some more waterclouds moving north over Florida so it will be there soon.

Don't get no heart attack.......snow shovelling is not so good for older opticians.

Spend the winter months in a better climate, even if it is cold once in an while you can take the sweater off at lunch time.

If the truth be known.........I wouldn't have missed this for the world! Plymouth and New Bedford have lost power, we can't be far behind.....yet our luck continues to hold. The only thing we are worried about is not being able to see the game tonight. My brother in law just called to tell me he resurrected his battery operated TV....but he's a half hour away by car and we won't be walking it today.

    Report from Long Island Sound

Despite dire warnings of the blizzard of the century we seem to have been spared any serious snow here in East Lyme, Connecticut. I have about a foot at my place and we have not had any significant wind. We did have a 6 foot storm surge in Niantic River but no damage from that. Everyone on my call list has power. Traffic is normal (at least between here and the bootleggers.)

I had no problem walking down the driveway to take this picture while awaiting the snow plow. That’s one of the advantages of being a senior citizen and having had a CABG X 4 nine years ago. You are cautioned not to shovel. This is one area in my life in which I am compliant.

I did buy Jane a new snow shovel for Christmas and she has already taken care of the front steps. She will hopefully finish the back steps and the path out to the barn soon. I sure hope so, as I need another adult beverage and more dip.

    How sweet it is !

Depends where you were in Western N.Y. but the ranges of snow I heard went from 16 in's to over 3 feet mostly along the lakes and as far inland as 50 miles depending on wind. Nice picture below almost up to the drivers hood. That is from Western N.Y. and "The R News"

Ya we had similar temps around -9 below on Friday wind chill at -25 F to -30 F! On Sat. it was -5 F with wind chill of only -10 F to -15 F, these were all at night. During the day on Friday it was +6 F and Sat. +9 F. It got warmer on Sunday to +24F.ut Sunday night still got down to around 0 F. Ah the winter in the North East especially Western N.Y. still remember the Blizzard of 1988 dumped over 3feet of snow, worse part was the blowing. That's the year Buffalo got hammered, For a week!

    Official count was 35-38

Official count was 35-38 inches.I took my wife to Falmouth this AM and the main roads were hardpack. Side roads, if they have been done at all are only a car width wide. I'll include a photo of Settlers Path where I live so you can get an idea. Also I include a pic of the lawn chairs which appear above.Bear in mind the snow has now settled since it stopped last night about 8. In the tree to the left but unfortunately not visible was a Robin! I didn't see it till after I snapped it.

Spex- unfortunately I had to use a yardstick- I needed my PD Stick to stir my coffee! (anyone ever hear that before?)
