Is there any one with the facility to construct a lens that is mirrored on one side and concave on the other for a reflecting telescope? I will have two to three hundred dollars to spend on this item if there is one available. Not sure what the power would be but I dont think it would matter too much. This and maybe a new pair of spectables also.

    Thanks,

    Hiya from the moderator!

Great question, and better answers than I could give.

My father-in-law is a glazier, and into astronomy, and wants to build his own telescope. With his background, and mine in optics, you would think it would be easy... wrong.

We ended up getting him a ?15"? telescope for his birthday to play with in the meantime...$500 is what we paid, but don't quote me on the size of the lens, and I think it was a reflecting 'scope anyway...

I recall coming across some great websites on how to build your own telescope, just check any search engine, as well as Meade.

    Hi Schwing,

I have looked at several web sites. I have found some good deals but they are scratched reflecter lenses. They are shaped
like the picture in the below gif.

    Look at Edmund Scientific
    "www.edmundscientific.com"

they have spherical concave mirrors - up to 50mm diameter as far as could tell.
They also will be at some (other) Vision West show in October (3~5) in San Jose, CA if you're interested.

PS, almost forgot. Go to their Industrial optics page, and search (top left corner) for mirrors. Quite the list.

Did you go to the Asteromart page? There are 38 sources on the startup page that sell new equipment. New - no scratches. Plus there is a free classified section you can look at http://www98.pair.com/rfields/cgi-bi...lassifieds.cgi That has stuff all the time. this is your source if you are really looking.
