    Firefox Browser

I've just downloaded Firefox 1.0 The most amazing webbrowser!

It is like using a new fast computer and puts to shame IE and Netscape.

All my old bookmarks have been imported automatically and browsing is a pleasure Very, very recommendable

I'm of the belief that nothing comes for free........ this is! so where is the catch?

Still waiting for the catch. I've been using Firefox for about a month - and I absolutely love it. The pop-up blocking is great, and I like the tab-based browsing better than having to open a new window. Have you tried "open in tabs"? You can open all your favorite web pages simultaneously and just click the tabs to move between them.

The catch is, the # of users is not significant enough and not enough mainstream attention to the browser for crackers to exploit sercurity holes it may contain. I figure the more popular it becomes, more exploitable aspects of the browser will come to the surface. With that being said, I think it's great browser and I hope my above statement is false as it gains popularity.

Flash works with some sites and not others in Firefox 1.0 PR

In the Mozilla Firefox 1.0 Preview Release, Flash may not work on some sites that use document.all because our "undetected" document.all support was in fact detected quite easily [Bug 259935]. To resolve this issue, update to Firefox 1.0 RC1 or later.

Remove Ad and Flash blocking extensions before installing a new version of Firefox or Mozilla

When you install Mozilla Firefox 0.9 (or later) or Mozilla 1.7 (or later), you may experience problems viewing Macromedia Flash content if you had a previous version of Firefox or Mozilla and extensions installed to block ads or Flash. Examples include AdBlock and Flash Click To View.

Before installing a new version of Firefox or Mozilla, you should uninstall your previous version, and remove the chrome and extensions folders from your profile - but back up userChrome.css and userContent.css first if you use them.

Dedicated Flash blocking extensions will need to be updated to work with new Firefox and Mozilla releases before you can use them, as the Flash blocking code tends to break between Mozilla releases.

This problem is also caused by the Flash filtering code in old releases of AdBlock, and does not appear to require the user to enable it. Updating AdBlock to version 0.52 or later should solve this problem.

Shouldn't this thread be living in the Geek forum?

In any event it's nice to see open source ware making it to the 'general public'.

Well, I finally broke down and downloaded Firefox. Still not sure what the obvious advantages are, but it's early. One thing I don't like is when I check my work e-mail remotely (from home)- I don't have a preview pane option that I had with IE.

    Then again, I was a devoted Netscape user until I was 'forced' to switch to IE in the late 90's. That was painful, but know I couldn't imagine using anything else at the time. Aren't human beings funny things? I bet your PC doesn't care what it runs, or how it works; heartless b@astards :}

I've already started receiving critical security update notices for FireFox. So much for the Mozilla squad touting the improved security over IE... ;)

    Best regards,
    Darryl

FYI: There's a significant secuurity hole in FF up to version 1.0.2:

No patch or update yet that I can see. The only fix is to disable javascript.

Any Firefox users out there who can solve a puzzle for me?

I've been using Firefox very happily for about a year now. I did download all the major plug-ins in the beginning. But over the past few months, I've had problems with Real Player and Adobe Acrobat. They simply won't load up when they're supposed to. I would then reinstall them, they would work normally for a week or so, then go back to not working. I've reloaded both programs a few times now, so I'm getting a little tired of the routine.

Has anyone else had a similar problem (and hopefully a solution)?

Firefox/1.0.6 is the version that I am currenlty using. I've used this browser for quite some time and prefer it over all the others that I have tried. One thing though that I have noticed with this version, occasionally it locks up and then crashes. Maybe its just a setting on my puter? I will have to get my mac tech (husband) to take a look at it. Other then that, it's a great browser and I won't be changing back to anything else anytime soon.

Snitgirl, I just upgraded to 1.5, you might want to that a shot.
