    Tinting for $$$$$$

With a minimum investment, and minimum supplies, you can dye lenses and make a substantial profit. Has anyone out there just started doing this? Would like to hear your comments.

The deceptive major cost of tinting is not supplies, but labor.

It is just soooooo labor intensive. Getting lenses to match, insuring that both right and left are same brand so they match, having odd splotches show up, having the samples never match exactly the end product because of different indices.

    Go polarized instead.

Tinting is part of my job. I view it as a labour of love of course being totally anal about it works too:) . It might be labour intensive but it's truly rewarding to do a match job and not be able to tell the new ones from the culls.

Where the heck is Chris? I would've sworn he'd be all over this.

Caught some kind of flu, had to drive 1550 miles to Florida (2 1/2 days), myFlorida Computer 3 years old had a totally rusted power pak and would not work. Had to have an express repair for which they charged an extra $ 90.00.
All in 88F or 30C with nearly 100% humidity. But I am back in action.

Of course thomassaccuci is right by saying that you all could make an extra dollar by tinting and other do yourself lens treatments.

Actually, if you purchase so called "virgin" lenses (no treatment) you can do your own UV, Tint and Scatch resistant and if you feel like it then send it to an AR coating lab to have the AR put on )the only stage you have to pay for) and then you can even add your own Hydrophobic Treatment.

On the selling price you can charge full value and on the purchase side you pay less for the lenses. Instead letting the lab make the buck in between you cash pocket the difference with a few minutes of extra work.

In today's age where you can tint a CR 39 lens in 60 seconds and a high index or a polycarbonate lens in 3 to 6 minutes to very dark shades without even having to buy or use a tinting unit this should be something to seriously think about. All of you already have the equipment which means for about $ 30.00 investment you can give it a try. Just look up my website, it's all there.
