Is AR standard on some lens

Does AR (anti-reflective coating) come standard with some lens or is it always an add on. In particular a progesive Zeiss 1.67 high index. Thanks

It's not automatic, but because of the way light reacts to the thinner lens materials it is highly recommended. Some dispensars may not even offer the higher index lenses without it, and that is understandable. The AR allows much more light to enter the lens, and gets it to the eye much more efficiently. That improves vision and the customer is happier. Over two years of wearing, the "per day cost" is almost nothing, but the benefit is great.

Some lenses like the Essilor 1.67 progressives, the Nikon 1.67, and I think the Zeiss 1.67 only come with AR.

I think the AR would be well worth having and wouldn't want order lens without it. It also sounds like the AR is something you can add to some lens and that it may automatically comes with others (Essilor 1.67 etc.). WHat I'd like to know is is AR included in the Zeiss 1.67 (the ponly way these lens come). Or to ask the quesiton differantly, can the Zeiss 1.67 can be ordered without the AR.

    I aprreciate your responses.

1.67 Gradal Top and Gradal Brevity

I represent Zeiss lenses on the East Coast. Both Gradal Brevity and Gradal Top lenses are available in 1.67 high index material. Both lenses are available without ARC, but Zeiss Carat or ET ARC is highly recommended. Our customized progressive, Gradal Individual, is only available in 1.6 material with Carat ARC.
    Hope this answers your question.
