Yes, .4 / .5 is the most common depth in my experience
Metal grooves for the ones I've worked with usually want the .7/.8 depth....with that being said i have used a .6 depth to make the edge less...
There are definitely frames that deviate from the standard groove depth and width...mostly depends on the type of frame as opposed to who the manufacturer is. Also i would say standard depth is more...
