We just ordered frames made out of Ultem material and styles made of TR90. I have no experience with these materials.
Which do you think is better? What do you use to insert the lenses and adjust the frames? Please be kind I'm doing this too long.

I always thought that I knew it all, so I had to ask the old friend Google who does, and he actually did have some answers on the first try:
TR90- A new type of polymer plastic designed to hold it's adjustment.
Advantages- Lightweight, durable, flexible. Holds it's shape and last a long time.
Disadvantages- None.
Hypoallergenic?- Yes
ULTEM- Ultem is an amorphous thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI) material which has extraordinary properties perfect for eyeglass frames.
Advantages- Extremely flexible and extremely light weight. Most Ultem frames are as light or lighter than titanium metal. Ultem frames can have a thinner look than acetate and many can be had with nose pads.
Disadvantages- None
Hypoallergenic?- Yes

I always thought Ultem was just a brand name for TR90. They are okay. Make sure to keep strict planning of possible basecurves for a given RX when fitting in these frames, they will take on the shape of the base curve or bevel almost completely.
I haven't really used them in about 5 years but they did their job and I could see them being very popular in areas that get extremely hot like Arizona or Nevada because the material is extremely heat resistant.
You just edge them and insert, but if your edger has a tendency to shrink the B measurement you may have to edge a little big and hand bevel the A length measurement to get best fit. My 2cents
Thanks for the info. Sounds like cold pop to insert? If they are so heat resistant how do you adjust them? Would you recommend hot air or salt pan?
You really can't adjust the TR90, they usually have bendable earpieces. Definitely cold insert, or hot insert it won't help you though!Quote:

Worked with both materials. They're fine. But pay attention to BC of frame and the lens,as someone said upper. Usually Ultem frames got rubber earhooks, so there's no issue to fit them as you wish. And, maybe i've got some other tr-90, cause I could fit it as needed with the hot air- but not all of them. And a pair of times i put lenses in such frames warming them. But, usually, yes- cold insert. If only demolenses could have perfect-fit shape all of the times.
