Here's the scenario;
tested in room OD 20/20 OS 20/20 with the new RX
Glasses are made correctly, pt takes the glasses
comes back 2 weeks later and says, "I can only see 10 feet away and can't read the street signs!"
So... I know what I say but want to see what all of you are telling the patient.
Also, I think this could be a fun thread for many scenarios so have fun with it!
What do you say when a patient says,
"Time to see the doctor, again."
"Time to check the exam room length."
"Time for closing. I'm headed to the pub."

If this is a new patient of mine- I would have become familiar with their history such as 1st time glasses? Worn previously? Why do they need Rx glasses? etc. All this can be accomplished while helping them look at frames. If in the scenario of first time glasses and especially if the Rx was plus Rx. I would have set expectations with them from get go. I kinda paint a worst case scenario about getting used to the Rx- so they know the first few days/weeks are going to be a struggle. If they adapt better than worst case scenario- they are happy and you are happier because you're not being the proverbial 8 ball feeling like you have to defend yourself and the integrity of the Rx/glasses. Low plus patients are the toughest ones to manage because their eyeballs have been in hyper focus mode for a long time and then you plop on a Rx that does the heavy lifting and the eyeballs fight the Rx. It just takes time to work through nuance of it all. And of course everybody is different and their is no "one size fits all" in this business...... Feel free to quote me on that one!!

Manage expectations
Gently explain that the glasses were the place to start and were made based on responses given to the refractionists but the problem seems to be something that eyeglasses cannot correct.
But chances are the prescriber has changed the rx for the sale and a remake to a different (old;) rx will fix it.
Or internal issues need to be addressed by doc's above an opticians pay grade- Up to referral to neural MD's.
Refer to office policy to remedy be it a refund or "You are S.O.L.!" Or something in between.
The specific prescription is lacking so I assume, Lori, you are looking for our trouble-shooting methods.
