A "tech" from a big box chain instructed myself (30 year board certified optical veteran) on the proper orientation of the replacement of nose pads. According to this individual I am "supposed to" point the "small end" in the direction of the forehead. I am amazed that I have been doing it wrong for all these years. :eek:
Personal preference. Almost no manufacturers make their frames that way (if they have replaceable pads) however. And D or teardrop pads will almost always come large end up. There is absolutely no "right or wrong". Do what you want. :smile:

I would speculate there is more fat under the skin the lower on your bridge you go so distributing the weight toward the top of the bridge is more common. Many D Shape and teardrop pads I'm noticing on my wall are not centered so reversing them might look funny.
But this is not meant to get too complicated and serious like the one we had where a plano lens has power. :wink:

I have a few special patients that are extra sensitive and love those little round buttons. They ask for those specifically!
One would think that distributing weight over a larger surface area would be the best way for sensitive people. But there are a lot of hypochondriacs out there.
I think the whole button thing started when frames were eensy-weensy and the nosepads had to be small to not be obvious.

I put the pointy ends up, so the luck doesn't run out.
When US made frames where the majority and Ronsirs Clubman and Sirmounts were the majority of frames with pads they all came with the pointy end facing up. The larger part of the pad was made to rest on the wider part of the nose to spread the weight over a larger area. Only glass in those days so fitting the pads was critical to a comfortable fit.
I guess if you use button or oval pads, you can avoid that issue. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I always point the point ends down and have never heard of or seen then put on the other way.
I always point mine down. The button ones that require a hook to hold on (Lindberg, Silhouettes) are a pain.
drk, It was more of a "humor post" that actually happened, but I love your answer!
I'm thinking of a new policy to settle this issue once and for all.
On dispensing I will require each patient to return a week or two later so I can change the pad size to find which is most comfortable.
Then I will again require them to return several more times to determine which material is most comfortable.
Then I will fit one tapered up and one tapered down and see which feels best.
At final dispensing I will provide a spare pair of pads at no additional charge.
Of course my time and materials justify a $20 pad fitting follow-up fee or "Padding fee", if you will, for each visit.*

Funny subject. I keep a bunch of sizes, shapes and materials on hand. On rare occasions I will put them on “upside down” for a nose shape that fits it better. I once had a customer that didn’t like how white the pad looked against her skin tone so she asked if I could tint it (hard plastic variety).To her delight it worked! ….until it gave her a little rash from the dye��
I cant find tiny round nosepads for the life of me. I think 11mm is the smallest I can find which still look like big round nosepads, not what Mrs. Crazy is looking for. I have finally run out of the supply and don't know where to get more.Quote:

Yup. I have found that most people who say they can't see with certain lens materials are full of baloney too. Every now and then we get someone who legitimately notices the difference between poly and Cr39 but usually if you don't tell them that it's a possibility they're fine.Quote:
