lab tech schools?

I know there was a thread on this but it's about 3-4 years old now and wasn't sure if anything new had occured since then. I was wondering if there were any lab tech/ lab skills schools around. I know my dad went to the Baush and Lomb school but that was back in the 70's. I was looking through his old note books and learned quite a bit. Even though it was "old news" it still helped me when I was first starting out. So I was just wondering if anything like this still exsisted or anything similar, like an exam or a course. Heck I'd settle for some good books and study on my own. Thanks in advance.

The other opticians there range in experience from 13 to 26 years. I'm only 25 years old, and I'm showing them a few things from school that they either never were taught, or forgot over the years.
