Can anyone please tell me what the requirements are to dispense in Virginia? It appears that licensing is required but I'm not sure to what degree. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. I'm curious though if there is the ability to work in the optical industry in some capacity without being licensed. I understand the process takes a bit of time. I have 40 years of experience either as an optician, lab representative or most recently outside frames sales. At this point I don't think I'm interested in becoming licensed but would like to stay in the industry. Do you think this will be doable there?Originally posted by optical24/7 View Posthttp://vaopticians.org/opticianry-in...nsed-optician/
Here's a start. I doubt they will give you reciprocity from Ca. since all it takes there is to pass the ABO basic and you don't have to maintain it or do any CE there.

Thanks so much for your help!!!Originally posted by optical24/7 View PostHey! You've made it 40 years in this business. Like that NY song goes, if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere! I'm sure, like most licensed states, you could work in some capacity under someone else's license, like an OD or OMD. Good luck in your quest!

In Virginia, as well as most licensed states, you can work under the Doc's license in a private OD or OMD's offices. State rules vary as to what constitutes "supervise", some can be done "off site" also. I recently looked into a position in Virginia, where I am not licensed, and was told it was not necessary, MD office. Contact fellow member here, Judy Canty, she is in Va., and on the association's board, and I'm sure she can help answer your questions.
