I recently retired after 43 years in the industry. The last 9 in Fredericksburg, Va. I can honestly tell you there are only a very few reputable trust worthy Optical employers in the area. Those are the ones that the people stay at for life. You need to be very lucky to get one of those jobs when they become available. The rest are not worth your time and skills. They will promise you anything, 35-40 hours a week, to get you. Then within 3 months "sales will be off and they need to cut hours". You loose your benefits then you are nothing more then a part timer. In the 34 years prior to moving to F'burg I never once had my hours cut or had it even talked about. In the 9 years I worked here I had them cut 7 times never to return to full time status. A license here is no guarentee of anything. You are at the mercy of the employer. You are better off starting from scratch in another up and coming industry. Good luck!!!
