Varilux Ipseo measurements question

I went today to my optician -- Opticians 3 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- to be measured for Varilux Ipseo lenses. It turns out that the woman with whom I had dealt previously was off today. I was told that she is their most experienced person with Varilux Ipseo and that the opticians who were present were uneasy about taking the measurements themselves. Accordingly, I've put off the measuring and ordering until Friday when she should be back at work.

My questions, especially for any optician with Varliux Ipseo experience, are:

How important is prior experience taking the appropriate measurements?

What, if anything, can I as a layperson ask to make sure that she has enough experience/expertise, not just more experience than anyone else there?

I've worn progressive lenses now for many years. The last time I filled a new prescription was about 2-1/4 years ago. At that time, my optician said he would like me to consider Definity lenses but they weren't available in my prescription strength. In preparation for my new eye exam, I explored the web to find out what new choices I might have; although I've always worn, and been comfortable with, Varilux Comfort lenses, I'm open to something new if it will improve my vision.

My web searching turned up both this forum and other information about the Varilux Ipseo (as well as other recently-developed, or at least new-to=me, lenses), which I perused as part of my preparation.

From my experience fitting Ipseo the measurements are easy enough to take using the vision print system (VPS ). I have only had one error when a client moved their head when they usually glance with their eyes. Following this I now take the measurements 3 times just to make sure they are consisitent. The rest of the measurements are the usual mono pd's and mono heights for the fitting crosses. Just try and be natural when using the VPS.

I think what your running into is inexperience on the part of the other "opticians" in that office. When we first started using the VPS ( Vision Print System ) Varilux sent a representative to train all of us but like anything else weve found some people pay attention better than others:) Consequently we have a couple of dispensers that shy away from the whole process, its really not rocket science. The patient wears a type of frame that is wired to the system and sensors in this frame record your responses to lights that flash in three areas in front of the wearer. As mentioned previously just relax and act natural and just to throw my two cents in we have had excellent success using the lense I think we have sold 20 pair and had one return and I think that was completely buyers remorse the lenses are rather expensive.

I agree also. We have been trained in my office as well, and some of us are very comfortable presenting the lens, and using the VPS. I have only sold 6 pairs personally, and have had 1 pt unhappy with the lens. He is a trifocal wearer and has tried every progressive lens we offer..mostly essilor products...he is just not comfortable with change....I guess it isn't for everyone...nothing ever is!!!!:o

Varilux Ipseo Vision Print System

How would one go about getting the Vision Print System in their office. I have heard just great things about this lens. Is it available in only select area's?

I do think initially it was only available in select offices. I just spoke with our lab, which is an Essilor of America Lab, and was told that it is now available to everyone..so you may want to be in touch with your sales rep...good luck!! Question for you...are you familiar with the Definity lens..We have not used that lens, but it sounds like it is a great design!!! Just wondering about the good and bad before we start offering it to our patients. thanks for any feedback....

Hi..I am just curious as to if you have received your new glasses with the Ipseo lenses yet, and if so, what do you think? We have sold maybe a dozen at my office, and the response is mostly positive. I just like to hear from the folks who are actually wearing the product other than the reps that are selling it!! I am in contact with a Essilor rep. I'm wearing the new Definity lens. It seems somewhat better design. I believe I have a little better peripherial vision. Reading area seems about the same. No great difference that I can tell. I have a -6.00 with a 2.00 add.

The VisionPrint System ( VPS ) is not easy to use correctly.
In our experience in 5 of our member who are authorized dealer of Varilux Ipseo in Thailand have same problem for the first week.

The data from VPS in first time always under like HE 0.15 - 0.20 for all customer. Then , we have to test 5 time and repeat to our customer to relax and take it easy. Then , HE will be about 0.30 - 0.45.

The key is relax.

We are going to find out more about VPS and Varilux Ipseo in case that have conflict of habbit , hobbies and job.

May be in some case , we have to recommended 4 difference of HE in 4 pair of Varilux Ipseo for one customer.
One for drive a car , one for golf , one for office and one for average.

In Thailand , rich customer realy don't care about the price. I love Thailand very much.
