3 piece mount for high minus- any ideas?

Hi- I have a patient who is a -7.00 with 6 base out prism. He wants a 3 piece mount and does not like a lot of hardware, like a Cartier or Gold & Wood. Any ideas as to who may make a frame that has long enough screws or prongs for that considerable edge thickness?

Is the prism 6 out OU? I've done silhouettes with low Rx and 6 base out OU with small eye size 1.67 material and it was fine. High minus with 6 base out ou is a lot. I have also done -12.00 on a silhouette. I thought it was hideous, but the patient liked it. Go figure. (she already had one from another location and was ordering a second one through us, we did not recommend it.)

I don't think that's going to work in any drill mount, regardless of how long the posts are. At that power, and with that much prism, you're going to have prohibitively thick edges.

I wouldn't even consider it, try and lead them into a semi-rimless if they want something non intrusive, but even that will not look very nice.

A simple -7.00 with PD 62 and a 55-17 frame is at least 7mm of edge thckness on 1.74 lens...I will use a semi rimless with polish edge

Thanks for the replies. I don’t want him to get a rimless- I sold him two round zyl frames. But he really wants one to wear at home. So I am trying to find something that will work. He knows the edges are going to thick as a brick!

Sometimes you can't talk them out of it. My -12.00 lady with the silhouettes LOVED hers. I hated them. Secretly didn't want her to tell anyone that we made them. To be fair, she was pretty much replacing what she already got somewhere else and this was a second (new RX) pair. She kept saying how light and comfortable they were.

It's probably not something you can easily get, but Lindberg rimless mount through the back of the lens with no compression fittings so edge thickness does not matter. I have made a few over -16.00 before. I don't think your job should be a problem given the fact that you can get the lens to fit on center in whatever eye size and shape you want.

Is it just me or do the patients with the highest scripts always want drilled rimless? Had someone with 10 base out OU on top of -9.00 ou ask if we had rimless. Not for your script, bud.

There's always lenticularization to reduce the edge thickness. It won't look good, but it might allow frames which otherwise couldn't be used.

Most modern edgers can countersink via notches, plus, extended bushings are also available for compression fits. I’ve had to do this more often than I should.

I made a pair of compression mount rimless with a -14 once. It worked out because the bridge was quite wide, about 25mm, and the lens shape was a small oval. I had to do some notching on that one by hand with a LessStress drill.
