I have been led to believe that it is bad form to use aspheric lenses for corrections involving prism in the script. It is not unusual for us to surface PAL's with prism though which by their nature are aspheric. Is there any truth to this matter?

nope. the issue is using an aspheric, and decentering it to get prism. one should always surface the prism into the lens. thus prism in progressives - aspheric or not, is fine
