Sales is based on supply and demand. A wholesaler convinces a retailer that there is a need for that product. The same thing applies with sales reps and the doctors offices. If there is a "perceived" demand for a product, there will be a sale. Fashion/Brand names will be sold wherever there is a strong enough demand and the price is right. Travel down to the Texas Rio Grande Valley and you will see what I mean.

Flech...
Many of the big Frame companies that have license agreements with designer brands have seperate divisions that sell a lower priced, lower quality (heat pressed lenses, poorly soldered nose pad arms, and weak hinge/screw joints, shallow eyewire bevels) product to the retail sector...mainly department stores, which is how they end up in TJ Maxx and Marshalls among others.
I have seen some lines (Oakley, Maui Jim's) in these settings also but the price is competitive because the quality is the same. I'd be careful accepting one of these name brand frames purchased from a deptartment type store. Near impossible to replace after a breakage occurs. Definetly want to have the patient sign a frame waiver.

David P:
I was looking for an answer to Fletch's last question about Nike, because I was going to ask the same thing...
I had a lady come in w/ a "Runners World" magazine that advertised Nike sunglasses for runners. I had the sale practically rung up. I called Marchon, told them I wanted to order the frame, and they said it wasn't theirs. (How many Nikes can their be?) It turns out, quite a few. Marchon said Nike distributes their own line of suns as well. Why would Marchon invest so much $$ in a line, only to compete against the company the owns the brand ? (And sells it discounted to boot?)
It really does take away any incentive to stock currrent product when it can readily be purchased from TJ Max or Marshalls bargain bins.Ophthalmic Optician, Society to Advance Opticianry

If you see the stuff in TJ's and Marshalls you will see that it is the same stuff we get! The inventory now is not as good as earlier in the summer! They had some styles that I HAD!
P.S. I was told that Lenscrafters has Cartier? In some stores!
Can anyone back that up!
I don't have Cartier so I could care less!

Cartier
Cartier is found in their "Optique" stores. These stores cater to a higher end market, and then only the creme de la creme of these stores carry them.

LensCrafters Optique
Optique stores are located in major metropolitan markets...
We have one here in Indy..but it doesn't carry Cartier, or any of the other real high end stuff..
Chicago has several, New York, Manahattan, Cincinatti.. I think Seattle has one now.. Mall of America... There are at least 25 I believe company wide...
Now not everyone of those have Cartier.. and we do have a non-optique store in Indy that carries Bulgari..A lot of it is market specific..
