there was a now deleted reply (probably because the acct got banned) from earlier today that just reeked of chat-gpt generated response.

I always find it funny when the visors break so easily in the movies.

For a -1.75, I would use trivex personally. Much less chance of cracking around drill holes. The poly police will probably shout me down though. JK

Meh. Sixes. With only a couple bucks of myopia, the visual/optical, thickness, and weight differences will be absolutely negligible between the two materials. From a finishing standpoint, Trivex does take an edge like nothing else (and properly drilled poly shouldn't be cracking anyway.) The bigger issue today, apart from the higher cost of Trivex, remains availability. I don't know if globally, the world just never recovered from the purported factory fire in Malaysia, or whatever it was that caused the big shortage several years ago. But increasingly, it seems from all my suppliers, Trivex is hard to come by reliably - even stock lenses are on indefinite backorder in simple powers.

We work almost exclusively with Trivex. I have NEVER seen it crack. It's the best.

Never had an issue with any labs I've worked having a trivex order delayed by the material. 90% trivex here, occasional CR39 or hi-index. We price plastic, poly, and trivex the same.

We just had an order for a chem clip and Ft 35 in trivex and it took our lab literally a month and a half to get the job back to us. The patient had an enormous head and therefore PD, and the lab kept breaking the lenses(or having AR defects) having to start over. They said it was all still on back order especially for the FT 35, and that drilling it was not going as easy as hoped. Patient was thoroughly ****** off about the long wait time since the lab tells us it should take two weeks, month and a half later they finally send us his lenses and now say something isn't quite right with one of them so in about another month I'll have a new lens being sent to replace it with. This is the first time we have had any issue with our lab and trivex but man was it tedious. For reference I'm in Missouri, and the lab did admit to it being backordered.

What are the chances of someone getting enough CA to even make it noticeable in a -1.75 Rx? Heck, unless it's a grooved rimless or drilled why wouldn't you just use CR39? And I've sold silhouttes in poly for years and can count on one hand the number of times I've seen cracking. You guys just want to argue again

Sounds like it is time for a new lab. The longest I waited for FT35 uncuts with AR, was 9 days. The rest of them were 4-6 days. There isn't anything special about edging/drilling them either. This is a lab problem, not a material problem. The ONLY time I've seen trivex back orders was flat tops during the peak of COVID.

Every one of my backorders with Nassau (for stock lenses) right now is Trivex. Every. Single. One. The oldest is now just over a month. I will get the odd 1.67, or poly that doesn't arrive quickly, but Trivex is by far the worst for that. Additionally, the power range of Trivex lenses is about a third what I can get in poly or 1.67. Trivex is a fine material, but it remains noticeably costlier, and limited in terms of availability in stock lenses.

Sounds like your chosen supplier has a real problem with availability and pricing. Might want to look for a new one.
