    Frame Design Info needed.

Im sure this question has been asked before but I have a few designs/sketches for glasses and would love to make them or have someone make them for me. Ive Googled how to make eyewear and Ive found information on bigger machines that work with zyl/acetate. And those are the sort of glasses I want to make. Ive seen information on 3d printers to get a prototype made but that would require some CAD knowledge which I would be willing to learn. I’ve even heard that woodworking is pretty similar to working with zyl. If anyone can give me a hint or a good start as I know sometimes people don’t like to expose their secrets. Ill even take a link to any classes online or within the NYC area.

Any information of how to obtain hinges and related supplies.

Or any suggestion on how to make a small run of frames.

    Thanks

The big problem dealing with the Chinese manufacturers is the quantities that you need to order. Someone somewhere has them in smaller quantities that would make more sense to a custom maker.

Hilco may also have some parts that you need

By hand, using wood working techniques.

If I had a dollar for the number of times I had seen a post about hand made frames with no video of the process or even pictures of a frame in process to substantiate the claim, I'd be well to do.

The only time I saw an image of a hand made frame here was a work created by the very talented Jerry Huang, he's a member under that name. He may be able to guide you in the right direction.

The next big question is how do I obtain the zyl/acetate ? Does anyone know where I can obtain that who's reputable?

This is where I get most of mine http://www.mazzucchelli1849.it/

Also do a Google search and check Ebay

The good part of doing business with the Europeans is that they will handle smaller orders than the Chinese. Mazzucchelli has a distributor in NYC that may also have even smaller quantities for custom work.

Breirfeld and Schliekert use to sell acetate sheets. They have many frame parts.

There are no US distributors anymore that I am aware of.

Check with Taili Glasses Parts Company

                    www.tailiglassesparts.com

I think they only do temples, hinges, nose pads, etc but worth checking out.

Whats use to create that Matte finish on some plastic? Is that some sort of sand paper?

sandpapering is another technic. You may also apply sandblasting and/or matte PU spray paint as well. They are all fun to try.....cheers!
