    Help with a school project

    I have to write a general chemistry paper, and I thought I would write about the relationship of chemistry and the optical field. I am looking for chemical equations or formulas for lens materials, coatings, etc. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated!:cheers:

    Maybe you can find something useful here:
    probably a simple question for most of you- i know they are activated by UV light, but i'd like to know what chemical reactions actually occur. thanks!

        Do a search on Optiboard for SIO2.

        There should be many thread with that keyword!

          Here are a few images of common chemicals used in the optical lab

          Acetone = To remove markings
          Aluminum Oxide = The main ingredient in our lens polishing compound
          Benzophenone = The main ingredient in a UV coating
          Ethyl Alcohol = The main ingredient in denatured alcohol also grain alcohol
          Ethylene Glycol = Tint neutralizer

          Also do a search for CR-39 for regular plastic, it is an interesting material to look at.

            Do you speak French ?

            I have an entire 300 pages book on the subject.
            PM me if interested.
            I may contact the author (my former teacher, who's a chemist) or give you his email.

            But if you're in a hurry...
            Learning French is not easy
            You will just understand the book in a few years
