Seiko Announces the MR-10 Lens Material

    [bc]Seiko Announces MR-10 Lens Material[/bc]

(OptiBoard PRNewswire) When tackling a rimless or semi-rimless frame mounting, polycarbonate is often the only recommended material of choice; however, with the advances in lens material technology, polycarbonate may no longer always be the best choice. Seiko 1.67 high-index lenses, manufactured from unique MR-10 resin, contain extremely desirable features, and should always be considered as the primary option for 3-piece or semi-rimless mountings, especially for patients with higher power prescriptions.

Cosmetically, MR-10 resin with a 1.67 index is roughly 20% thinner than standard polycarbonate. The thinness is apparent, and makes a big difference in these types of mountings, particularly when used in conjunction with higher Rx powers. Furthermore, the MR-10 material provides a very clean edge polish, improving the overall cosmetic appearance of the frame and lenses. The thinness of 1.67 also allows you to use 3-piece styles with a fixed pin length more easily, and extends the Rx range offerings, because, in many cases, polycarbonate lenses may prove to be too thick to be considered.

Documented tests confirm that tensile strength (resistance to breakage in pulling) of MR-10 is over 50% stronger than polycarbonate,* and three times stronger than conventional plastic*. Also, the flexural strength (resistance to breakage in bending) of MR-10 is two times more resistant than polycarbonate*. This means the lenses will stand up better to everyday wear and tear in these types of mountings.

Seiko High-Index manufactures its entire 1.67 product line from MR-10 resin, making all their 1.67 lenses the ideal choice for high fashion and semi-rimless mountings.
