Coburn Technologies in South Windsor, CT

Does anyone on OptiBoard work at Coburn Technologies in South Windsor, CT?

The reason I ask is that my wife and I are planning to move to Connecticut and there is a house we like that is literally a block from Coburn. I'd be interested in know what you think of the area around there. TIA

    Steve

Did the move go well? I live in Northampton, MA and sometimes have to drive to pick up lenses at the South Windsor Hoya lab.

Not yet. However our house just went under contract so if all goes well we will become officially homeless on Dec 2nd and we'll be traveling back east at the first of the New Year to begin our housing search. And actually Northamptoln, MA in high on my list of places to be, but it seems ranch style houses in that area are few and far between. If you know of anything, please let me know.

It's a tough market with little inventory -- especially ranches, which seem to go for a premium. I would suggest that you consider a couple of the towns close by: Holyoke and Greenfield. And while not a ranch, you could consider this place: https://www.elliman.com/massachusett...erett-ma-01054

We have a long set of criteria, including one floor living (we are in our 70s and this is the last house we plan to buy), politics, crime, cost-of-living, easy access to shopping, medical care, etc.

That house is okay, but my wife thinks that caring for 120,000 sq ft might be a bit much.

My Folks used to live in Windsor Locks, just north of there. Beautiful area! I think you'll love it there Steve - but about as different from AZ as you can get (in terms of both weather and political climate!)

                  I think there's a central vac.

I was born in Hartford and although I've lived in AZ most of my life, I've been back there a few times and even spent my Senior year in High School there (East Windsor HS Class of 1970.) I've always love the area and New England in general.

She's right Steve. That's a hell of a big house.

My daughter and niece both live in S. Windsor (we're on the shore). S. Windsor is a very nice, very popular town right now. If memory serves, Coburn bought out the Gerber Scientific property. Granby & Glastonbury also nice, but will be a bit more pricey as a rule.

Politics in CT is liberal or very liberal. Nothing right of that. All five federal reps and both senators are Big D's. Dems have controlled the state capital for a number of years. If that's your leaning, you'll fit right in.

                          Welcome to the Nutmeg state.

We love AZ. Don't know if I'd want to be there year round. But love all of the southwest for vacations. Just SOOOOO different from New England.

Where abouts in Hartford? Wife and I both grew up in Wethersfield.

Good luck. Remember it only takes one. If you have any other questions, feel free to get in touch.

                              Regards,
                              Wayne
