Things that make me weep for humanity

I received an e-mail from a potential customer complaining that some of my frames were called "gunmetal". She went on to state that calling a color "gun-anything" is dishonest and an insult to the children who have died in school and theater shootings.

Okaaay...I guess. But if you don't like the name of the color, just don't buy it, right?

Was she mad about tortoise shell plastic frames? is that insulting all the turtles eaten in soup? What about Bronze colored frames? is that an insult to villagers killed with Viking's bronze weapons? What about vulcanized rubber? is that insulting insulting to Spock?
Patient, ".. Doctor says I have a subscription for stigmata.. Can you fill that?"
    Me, "..Um.. "

I trust that she didn't use any bullets to highlight points in that email!

Sadly, this is a symptom of the 'outrage' culture we live in these days. Too many people are simply going out of their way to find things to be outraged about.

Yes...like the lady that came in here Monday yelling at me because the store next door wasn't open!

Yes it can be political correctness running a muck but some people in this country were profoundly changed by what happened in Columbine and Newtown and she sounds like one of them.

Is it in your power to change it to say "nickel"?

Can you see where some people are sensitive to words unconscious meaning?

I know that we all forget about the simple things life and start taking them for granted. If we would just take time to reflect on how difficult life is without those simple things then we may be able to keep our priority's straight. This "outrage culture" has no damn idea how hard life could be for you. Pause and think of the third world country's, better yet go visit them. You will come back with a new outlook on life and you WILL organize your priority's and appreciate them.

                      LOL!!

The only problem would be the tie into the automated ordering system. Changing the name one place would require changing it all down the line.

That said, if I got more than one complaint about it, I might change it, but certainly not to satisfy one wack-a-doodle.

Being alive is insulting to all the people who have died.... and thus the proliferation of zombie movies....

There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
