    Wtf?

I'm checking the local news as usual this AM and find this.

    http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/reports-veteran-from-wisconsin-injured-during-occupy-oakland-protest-132648173.html

This is the only major news organization that comes up on the first page.

Police used tear gas to disperse an Occupy Oakland march overnight, with reports of injuries from rubber bullets or baton rounds. Read updates as it happened

So a protestor takes a some type of canister to the head. Of course, the cops didn't aim at anyone's head- as my retired from the force buddy would say, it was a lucky shot.

However, I watched the video of the other protesters coming to his aid. The protester was crumpled to the ground, with an obvious head wound. What happens next turned my stomach, and is now becoming rage. I don't care what their politics are, I just want two minutes in a locked room with the low-life that did that.

Where is the 'Like ' button?? I knew from being in the protests in the 60's & 70's that this might happen, I just didn't think it would be so soon. It's starting to sound like the Arab Spring, maybe it's just a continuation of it.

The only surprise to me is how tolerant the cops' masters have been so far. Don't fool yourself. The police are there to protect the powerful moneyed elite, not the average joe. The average street cop may not know this but the chiefs certainly do. The politicians are largely ignoring it because they're owned by the moneyed elite. Same with the mainstream media (literally).

Power to the people. I've contacted my Senators (Kohl shares the same breakfast counter with me on a few Saturday mornings) concerning the treatment of the wounded citizen, as I continue to vote against the incumbents- with no exceptions.

To some extent, I think what you saying is true. There's certainly going to be hell to pay for tossing a flash grenade, and maybe CS, onto a critically wounded citizen, and the folks who were trying to help him. It reminds me of Beirut when snipers were shooting at the ambulances (or was that LA?). At a minimum, it speaks poorly for the training and discipline of the Oakland force.

You missed my point entirely. If you were throwing a dart at the board in front of you, you would have hit the guy behind you in the eye.

The dude was down, laying in a fetal position, face bloodied. The cop had a clear view, standing what looks like from a distance of no more than twenty feet. As a dozen or so people went to his aid, the undertrained cop threw what looks like a potentialy lethal flash-bang grenade next to his head. Mother****er!

If I were the judge, I'd have him clean out the guys toilet once week, until he recovers fully.

            Hear this-

Go easy on the peaceful protesters, the druggies, and the prostitutes, and save your best for the violent perps.

It usually comes down to training and discipline. No one will be decorated on that day.

Yes, we'd better blame the policeman for this one!
He needs to be taken off the street, and the feds need to investigate if he should be criminally prosecuted. He showed no respect for the life a critically wounded citizen, by continuing to attack the same helpless citizen with potentially lethal force.

I'm not a lawyer, but as far away from the locals as possible seems prudent.

Why, though, are there only calls for prosecution when a protester is injured, and not law enforcement officers, business owners, and average citizens?
I suggest you start your own thread to discuss the injustice of it all. I strongly recommend that you read this...

Robert, I didn't realize we shared the same experience. I was a Sophomore at Ohio state when the anti Vietnam war protests started. I remember walking to class when the protesters marched past. My group followed because they were going toward my dorm. At the corner of Neil and11th St was a gate that was usually always open. The protest group closed the gate and continued their march. A number, including myself, sat on the oval around the closed gate.About 10 protesters sat on the gate. My group, the ones were on their way to their dorms, about 2 -3 dozen people, were starting to leave, when Campus police arrived and started to beat up a couple of kids sitting on the gate. No warning or anything. i was 20 feet away. Almost immediately. the main protest group of 2 thousand rounded the corner and saw what the " police " were doing. All Hell broke loose. This was 2 weeks before Kent State. This and other reasons such as Richard Nixon soured me on Republicans in general. I always liked Rockefeller and voted for Reagan .

                          rdcoach5,

I'm sorry you had to see that. It's surprises me that the kids didn't attack the police like these soccer fans...

Although one must note that it was the good cop that was beaten.

It's a shame, because there's usually just a handful of bad guys on both sides that start the violence. I can't imagine how the ONG was brainwashed into murdering their own brothers and sisters, but then I remember the American civil war, and hope that our country is old enough now not to let that happen again on any level.

Let's drink to the our right to **** and moan, freedom of assembly, and to our right to vote the bums (All of 'em!) out of office.

We were watching ST:TOS last night- Errand of Mercy, from the first season. Maybe someone like the Organians will help save us from ourselves.

AYELBORNE: Unless both sides agree to an immediate cessation of hostilities, all your armed forces, wherever they may be, will be immediately immobilised.
KIRK: We have legitimate grievances against the Klingons. They've invaded our territory, killed our citizens. They're openly aggressive. They've boasted that they'll take over half the galaxy.
KOR: Why not? We're the stronger! You've tried to hem us in, cut off vital supplies, strangle our trade! You've been asking for war!
KIRK: You're the ones who issued the ultimatum to withdraw from the disputed areas!
KOR: They are not disputed! They're clearly ours. And now you step in with some kind of trick.
AYELBORNE: It is no trick, Commander. We have simply put an end to your war. All your military forces, wherever they are, are now completely paralysed...

KIRK: Even if you have some power that we don't understand, you have no right to dictate to our Federation
                              KOR: Or our Empire!
KIRK: How to handle their interstellar relations! We have the right
AYELBORNE: To wage war, Captain? To kill millions of innocent people? To destroy life on a planetary scale? Is that what you're defending?
KIRK: Well, no one wants war. But there are proper channels. People have a right to handle their own affairs. Eventually, we would have
AYELBORNE: Oh, eventually you will have peace, but only after millions of people have died. It is true that in the future, you and the Klingons will become fast friends. You will work together.
                              KOR: Never!
CLAYMARE: Your emotions are most discordant. We do not wish to seem inhospitable, but gentlemen, you must leave.
AYELBORNE: Yes, please leave us. The mere presence of beings like yourselves is intensely painful to us.
