    Been a long time

    Good Morning, Everyone.

Yes, the old EyeMan is back to say hello.

I've been training new opticians before I officially retire on April 1, 2025, after 50 years in the optical business.

Hope to connect with some of my old friends from the past before I go.

    have a great Thanksgiving.

The Third Act will be more meaningful than the first two. Many years ago, my wife, Marilyn, got me involved in the National Alliance on Mental Illness. I have served as the president of the Johnston County NC affiliate since 2014. I also currently serve with the National Board in Arlington, VA, and on numerous national committees and Councils.

Of course, that will be my second post-retirement job. Job #1 is and will always be..."Pop-Pop" to my Grandkids.

Yes, it has been a long road. I started with glass lenses, but I still have some scars to prove it.

Same here. Started in 1973 at a small lab in Phoenix that was only doing glass lenses. Did you ever backcut on a photogrey lens in the Coburn 108 generator? Sparks and flames everywhere. Fun times!

Just a several years later, CR-39 was dominating the market.

How many od our old friends developed all kinds of funky cancers an such from the crap we used to cool down those generators. The Washington Post did a piece sometime back in the '70's naming the top 10 unhealthiest jobs, and working in an optical lab was in there.
