there is a major difference between optical stores and hospitals. You as an Optician are not an at risk group, nor are you a higher risk for passing it on.

When you are face to face behind your pupilometer....with a snivelling,sneezing,coughing,runny nosed client....I would call that "front line medical worker".

you do not see that any different from working with hundreds of sick people every day? (not potentially sick, but sick). You do not see that different from potentially passing off a germ to someone who is at a far more risk of phsyical harm than the average joe?
